A message from Ronda:
"It has been a good winter . This year we are up to around 5500 blankets listed as distributed. We were prevented from distributing in several of the listed areas this winter due to service delivery protests accompanied by violence and police cordons. The KASvan was turned aside on a couple of occasions because of this, and on other occasions we simply never left the office for this reason. For safety, it is important for the volunteers to have reliable phones in case of emergencies especially in areas of unrest.
We are still distributing and will carry on doing so by rolling beanies and handwarmer sets inside blankets, tying with ribbon and attaching soft toys, so that the little ones do not have to be wrapped up in the heat. Daycare centres are more than happy to store blankets until next winter where necessary. "
Anneke, thank you for posting this message from Ronda. Wonderful news that 5500 children are now being warmed and comforted by our blankets, hats, hand warmers and toys but dreadful to read that distributions have been prevented due to protests and violence, the safety of the KAS volunteers must always come first.
Hi Louise, I completely agree with you, safety first for the KAS volunteers.
