Oh my goodness is that ever CUTE! There's a bunch of patterns for crochet amigurumis too on the net and in books. This one is adorable, for knitters. And you're right it would fit in any nook or cranny and take only a leftover bit of yarn to make up. Here's one for the cutest danged octopus:

and another good thing about is that It is not hard at all, you only need to know basics. cast on & off , and M1 and thats about it.
