Oh my goodness is that ever CUTE! There's a bunch of patterns for crochet amigurumis too on the net and in books. This one is adorable, for knitters. And you're right it would fit in any nook or cranny and take only a leftover bit of yarn to make up. Here's one for the cutest danged octopus:

The next is African and Asian animals of all sizes, some Amigurumi, some not, size varies with yarn and hook used: (Do check out the "Pocket Elephant" pattern, he is ADORABLE!)
