Square Circle Forum

Just to introduce myself.  I'm Judith and live in Lancashire UK. A fellow dog walker told me she knitted for charity so I did a Google search and discovered KasCare!  After a life time of knitting I decided the little short sleeved jumpers were a great way of making use of all my "spare"yarn. Being semi-retired I now have the time to "sit and knit" and hope to send my first batch in a few weeks time.

Hi Judith, lovely to have you!

Thanks for the reply.  Am knitting little jumpers which is a really good way to use up my "accumulated" spare yarn. Hope to have first batch off before too long!

Judith

Hello Judith and welcome to KAS.  There is a UK forum too if you want to put anything on there - click on Groups then you will see the UK one.  Just a teeny word about the square jumpers - they can come up very small and we have found that with small needles or a tight knitter the neck holes just aren't big enough - plus they need the larger sizes at the moment - not teeny ones.  Please don't think I am being discouraging - we are thrilled that you are knitting for KAS.  There are loads of patterns under the Patterns tab for squares and hats and other things too to help use up that stash.  We are a friendly bunch and hope to hear more from you soon.  I am down in Shropshire.  So glad you found us!

Thanks for the message.  I have done about twenty of the jumpers as I assumed as the pattern was on their web site, it was OK.  I will just adapt the pattern to make a larger size! I'll have a look at the other patterns as well.

Have still got my cold!!

Judith

Thanks Judith - we have talked about taking that pattern down as it can come up a bit small - but that caused a lot of problems due to all the links to the site so that's why it is still there as it is.  As Christine says, bigger hats too please and thanks so much for persevering - anything that is a bit small gets passed on to Zimbabwe  so all will be welcome as long as the neck is big enough for a little head.

As mentioned to Christine I'll probably use the beanie hat pattern I used for my 8 year old grandson which fitted me as well!  Hopefully the necks on my jumpers will be OK as I'm quite a loose knitter.

Further to my recent message, I have found a hat pattern on the site.  Can you let me know if I am OK knitting these before I start.

Thanks

Judith

Hi Judith, the same thing applies really - the patterns need to be upsized as garments are mostly needed for  toddlers upwards and even toddlers' heads are nearly as big as adults'. I still use the KAS hat pattern on site but cast on a few more stitches and there are a number of other patterns here http://square-circle-forum.ning.com/forum/categories/patterns-hats/...

The KAS vest pattern is great as long as the head opening is big enough but it can easily be adapted as you say.

Thanks Christine for replying.  I actually knitted a beanie hat for my 8 year old grandson as a Christmas present so I may use that pattern as it fitted me as well!!  I'll also give the KAS pattern a go.
