This week we are re-visiting the past,  featuring the work of HOTEL HOPE, and the wonderful Oliver Quambusch, and, Ruth Nkosi.  Both are beautiful people inside and out!

Ronda was still on the Hotel Hope board and helping with their accounts before Knit-a-Square became too busy for her continue.  However, KAS has always maintained the links and supported their work whenever we can.

Oliver and Ruth collecting blankets and other items

for the "dump families"

Dozens of entire families live out in the open air, ON the municipal dump in Johannesburg and forage among the garbage for food and items to either, warm themselves or sell.

As you can see Knit-a-Square provided these families with your much need squares in the form of blankets, plus hats!

Ruth and Oliver's big hearts not only stretch to counselling young mothers. Ruth helps some as young as 12 / 13 years of age. Hotel Hope frequently takes in their infants until they have completed school and can earn a living, or, organises foster or adoptive parents as the case may require.

They also run a training academy for young men and women who they find sleeping on the streets.  At the academy they can learn hairdressing, woodworking and others skills.  Many of the items of furniture from the woodworking academy are now being ordered and used commercially!  Incredible progress is being made.

Please do watch the video with Oliver outlining their hopes, goals

and progress : Hotel Hope Video

[Due to Report Day clashing with Parcel Opening Day and causing pressures on both Wendy & Ronda, the reports will appear on a different day, yet to be decided, starting next week!  There may be occasions when the schedule will change or report may have to last two weeks when everyone is a bit stretched.]
