I'm a crocheter. I bought one of those circulare knitting machines that you crank.
Need some help. I don't like the brim. It doesn't look finish (from a crocheters prospective), no nice clean edge. Also, at the top, I went around twice for stability and pulled together. I don't like pom poms, so need some advice on what to do. Do you gather and sew together? I've attached a picture of my first attempt.

In my opinion, it is just fine. well done for first attempt. I don't have a machine, so am judging on what I see.
Wow that's a really pretty hat. Obviously you can easily get a roll brim with this method as you've found out. Being a crocheter, you can always go to that lower edge and add some ribbing (rows of back loop single crochet of the length you desire, just start a chain down from the edge of the hat and sc up it to the rim, ss into the hat edge then back down the next row but back loop sc from then on, around the hat) or you could do scallops for a girl's hat, or several rows of sc around the brim, adding to the hat's length, with the final row being reverse sc. There's quite a few edging options.

The top of the hat looks great to me. It can either be gathered as you have done, or if you've made a longer one you can gather it a few rows down and leave yourself a "top knot" on it, or you can sew a flat seam of the folded in ends across the top, making it wide not gathered at the top.

Hope I didn't confuse you and I bet some people will have even better ideas! :) Really NICE for your first hat. Bravo. I've looked at those crank machines myself and always wondered if they did a good job or not. You answered that question for me. :)
