Square Circle Forum

You can help to keep AIDS orphans warm by supporting KasCare's knit-a-square program and knitting for charity to win the Joann Craft for A Cause Contest 2010.

Joann is a one of the USA's largest craft suppliers. They have issued a call to Craft for a Cause! Just click here.

By supporting KasCare's knit-a-square program, not only do we get more squares to make blankets for the children, you stand a chance of winning a US$1500 prize for the best crafted item, and knit-a-square stands a chance of winning US$50.000!

Imagine how many more children we could reach if that money went to support and grow our volunteer base in South Africa.

We could extend our reach into more of the hundreds of creche's in the shack settlements, find more and more organizations and orphanages with whom to partner and set up more sewing groups, enabling us to make more blankets and warm more children faster. It would allow us too to extend to the poverty stricken rural areas.

So please join us as we CRAFT FOR A CAUSE! Just click here.

The conditions are simple. You have to use Joann products to enter the competition. You can order your products online HERE. Not only does that allow you to enter, but KasCare will get a commission for everything you buy.

Then you need to photograph you square or hat and enter the competition HERE making sure you tell everyone you are supporting KasCare's Knit-a-square program. (KasCare is the official name of our charity).

The charity that wins is the one that receives the most items, so get out your needles and hooks everyone and lets not only craft for a cause but make sure that every stitch counts to warm and comfort a child.

These children have so little, they may have lost their parents or be losing them as you read. 500 children a day become orphans in South Africa alone. As you work, think of them and what it means to be alone, as a young child, with, no support network, few belongings, perhaps infected as well as affected by HIV/AIDS. And then imagine them with a beautiful hand made blanket to warm and comfort them.

A blanket makes a real difference.

So c'mon everyone lets craft for a cause and keep a cold child warm.

Enter here today! We have until October 31 to win the big prize for the children.

Make sure you subscribe to Square Circle for stories of the children and their blankets and the wonderful work you are doing to help these vulnerable and orphaned children. Thank you.

NOTE:  Contest is open to legal U.S. residents residing in the 50 United States (other than residents of the States of Maryland and Vermont) and the District of Columbia who are age 14 or older at the time of entry. Entries for participants who are minors in their state of residence must be signed by a parent or legal guardian. Contest is void in Maryland
and Vermont.

ONLY ONE ENTRY PER PERSON.

What a wonderful opportunity to help KAS and spread the word about the wonderful work you do. I've signed up and will order yarn and knit a KASCuddle. How exciting! I'll also post this on Facebook so all of my friends hear about it, too. Let's get crafting for a cause!
Debbie,
I think a KasCuddle is a great idea and perhaps somewhat unique in the world of charity knitting. The photograph would tell a story too, especially if you have a real baby to photograph in the KasCuddle. I think even a doll would work.

This is exciting.

I did like shopping at Jo-Ann when I lived in the States.
I tried clicking in the box, but nothing happened. I gather this is where it is supposed to go:

Also, it looks like this is for U.S. entrants only, so our Americans KASers are going to have to craft for all of us!

Wow. Maryland & Vermont can't join in? I have family there and would have asked them to help us out.

:(
I was so disappointed to see that Maryland residents can't enter, since that's where I live! I even emailed Joann's to ask if it was possible to submit an entry just to count toward KAS's total, even if I'm not eligible for the cash prize. But they said no, I can't enter at all. It has something to do with MD saying you can't require someone to purchase something in order to enter a contest.

I'm bummed.
I will reword the text on both pages to ensure that people understand this. Why would they not include the world one wonders given the fact that it would seriously increase their sales. Anyway thank you for pointing this out Erica. Not sure why the code doesn't work here. it is affiliate link code and it works in the main site. Perhaps I will send you a PM with the code and you might be able to help me make it work here.
I have removed the box for now and put up a link to the KAS page on which the box does work, so please everyone if you are ordering Joann product online, do go through that link as you will be sending additional income KAS's way. Thanks Sandy
I expect they have to limit it to the U.S. for legal reasons - the legal requirements for running promotions (with prizes) vary a lot from place to place, and it can be hard to get a set of rules which works across international borders. It is a shame though, I would have happily ordered some yarn shipped out here for the promotion.
Sorry that we can't enter from the UK. Can each person make more than one entry? If the winning charity is the one with most entries, it might be worth digging out all the photos you have each taken of recent squares, blankets, beanies (using Joan yarns ofcourse) and enter them all. I'm sure some of you could make several entries if that was the case. We will support you in spirit.

The "official rules" said: "Each entrant may submit only one entry." Which is really too bad!!
And in the discussion about this in the USA group, someone brought up the point that people outside of the US might still be able to vote for KAS once the voting starts!
Sandy, I can't get the box to order supplies from Joanne's to work. I have clicked all over the box and
no connection.
Hi Helen, dash it works on the KAS site and i used the same code. I will have to see how to fix it, so frustrating. Thanks for the alert.
