I used a 5.00mm hook, worsted weight yarn and 26 stitches.  If the square is smaller than 8", single crochet around the edge.

Thanks!  it's very pretty and if we've got a lot of one color of yarn we can use this pattern and not get bored at all! I like how the treble crochet over the top of the background square gives texture and air trapping pockets, extra warmth...it's also a great way, if you've got a thinner yarn of making the square more substantial.  Just printed it off with your photo, above, lovely!
