As Lilian got the February Challenge off to a flying start, thought we'd better get the Challenge page going! Below is Lilian's Fantasy February Square and some samples of French Lace to set your taste buds going! The other pictures are examples of Guipure Rose and Guipure Squares & Circles and Chantilly Lace. There is an amazing array of French Lace when you Google!

Permalink Reply by P. Jeanne Haessler on January 31, 2012 at 4:05am Glad to see the next challenge up. I have some colors of yarn that would qualify as frooty-tooty without any fancy stuff! Love the purple bear.
Oh p.s.-so long as the gaps in the lace patterns are tiny they will trap the air and add insulating warmth. Use your own judgement on this. You can hold the completed square up on your hand and blow on it, if you don't feel cold then neither will the child. (now I don't mean "I'll huff and I'll puff and I'll blow your house down!" kind of blowing, they're not in a hurricane zone after all!) ;)
Just thinking...I have some fantasy type appliques...maybe those would count for this challenge, put them on plain janes! :D

You probably wonder "where has she been living?..under a mushroom?...and you'd probably be right...but...I have looked on the net... and with my limited search capabilities, can't find a list or guide to colours that would define "tutti-frutti". Could you please help this backward Aussie??? I'm sure to have some in my stash already...if I just knew which colours they were. Thanks. :=)

These are from: http://www.mountaincolors.com/colors/index.html No doubt not cheap but these are "tooty frooty"colors to me. So are these from Red Heart Yarns:
Those are Comfort Yarn, available anywhere...I've got their crayon colors one, the first one, and it's BRIGHT. These next are Soft Touch Yarn, also available from Red Heart:
Okay the green is called Guacamole but the wine is "Berry" and the others are Hot Pink and Lavender. I think any bright cheery color works. And look at the brilliant colors of 100% Peruvian Single Ply wool on this page of theirs: http://www.redheart.com/yarn/full-o-sheep There's PassionFruit, Cupcake, Peony,Plummy...I'm sure you get the drift. These are medium weight yarns, there's lots of other weights. Hope these help? When I think "Tutti Frutti" or "Tooty Frooty" I think Carmen Miranda's hat, the brighter the better. I should go get a glass of juice, some of these are making me thirsty!
Permalink Reply by Bev Jeffery on February 1, 2012 at 9:57am Thanks Jeanne. Have many colours similar to that in my stash, and it appears some of the colours I thought appropriate match yours. :)
Permalink Reply by Andrea Palmatier on February 2, 2012 at 8:06am I love, love, love working with bright colours! Good choices, Jeanne. :o)
LOL. Bev thanks for asking the question I was too embarassed to ask ;)
Permalink Reply by djd on February 2, 2012 at 10:09pm Tutti frutti is Italian and means all fruits, literally.
Permalink Reply by Bev Jeffery on February 3, 2012 at 12:54am Thanks for that. A straightforward and exact explanation. Surely even I can't go wrong now.
Permalink Reply by Pam Antink on January 31, 2012 at 4:50am Jeanne you are quite right, having looked at some of the Facebook photos on crocheting pages I too noticed how 'lacy' lace can be! Here are a few which are 'lacy looking' for squares without being too full of holes! The major problem with lacy designs is that stitches are often intricate and time consuming. I'm sure the KAS crocheters and knitters will use their lively imaginations.
Although the lace designs are very prietty I was thinking that thay might not be too warm myself jeanne.
Permalink Reply by Mary Kristel Lokken on February 1, 2012 at 2:12am "Lacy" wool can be surprisingly warm... And besides, I think I read that the idea would be to make blankets out of plain jane squares with just a few fancy ones per blanket, so no harm done if we get lacy and fancy once in a while! Shakes us up and gets us going!
