If you're feeling really energetic, perhaps you will achieve a whole blanket's worth of squares.  :))

and remember, it's not too late to include toys for the children

And if you're still not sure where to begin, these tunes will get those needles, hooks and looms working, I'm sure.....

Please sit with me under Chris's umbrella as we make some LOVE-LY squares to CELEBRATE AFRICA!
Lots of squares, blankets, hand warmers, hats and toys.
Our love and care in every stitch.

Cuddles galore for this cute little chap, Chris...I LOVE his eyes.  :))

I am so excited for this month's challenge - and simply could not believe that when I looked at the challenges in Nerdopolis on Ravelry (a knitting game/challenge I take part in each month over there) one of the challenges allows me to make things inspired by Africa as well!!!!

I hope to be able to kill two birds with one stone this month :)

I can't wait to see what you will make, Rebecca.  :))

Managed to get some time to work on squares today as I was a passenger in a car for several hours.  I have one square done and another 1/3 done.  I have discovered that before I can do any more, I will need to purchase some colours I appear to have used up from my stash!

Had to laugh at this, Rebecca - doesn't it always happen that when we try to use up our stash, we end up having to add to it instead!

A famtastic first square of the month theme. Thanks, Anne.

Beauty, Anne.  I love your chain stitch squares :) xo

Bev, your intro is fabulous!  So much beauty to inspire creativity.  And you just know I LOVE the music :)))  Thank you for leading us in a celebration of Africa this month! xo

Oh Anne, I ALWAYS love your chain stitch squares....you always pick such great colour combos to really make them POP!!   :))

I was so ready to do this month's theme!  Lubabalo Kondlo of South Africa is a Grand Master of Draughts. We call draughts checkers in America.

I was going to do a blanket square. Either a 8 inch square that is a checkerboard, for draughts or checkers, to be put into a blanket. OR a four squares checkerboard that would fit into a blanket. Still working out the math stitch details but it would need to work out to 16 inches by 16 inches.

BUT I can not come up with idea for attaching the game pieces!!! I know the blanket has to be able to go thru washing so keeping pieces together are an issue. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi Deborah, Perhaps if you crotcheted an 8" square with a pocket and flap that you could seal down with Velcro?. If you had your pieces in a little drawstring bag they could be kept inside it and then removed when the blanket needed to be washed. If it was too bulky you could do 8"x16" and sew this onto the side of your 16"x16" square and then everything would be together..Hope this has been of some help to you.
