I have just found this site which has a wonderful selection of patterns for dishcloths which could be used for Kas squares.

Dishcloth patterns can be great for KAS squares, and if they don't work out large enough, you can add a border to make 8 by 8 inches.

Often you can just get the right size by using bigger needles.

Charis that's a very interesting collection of patterns...something for everyone there I should think! My fastest squares are diagonal garter stitch, but I always have 1+ textured squares on the go, those are what I love doing. I enjoyed the knot stitch pattern you posted very much.  Off to get started!! Thank you very much for finding the site :)

Glad you like the patterns, Anne-I found the site when browsing Ravelry for baby bib patterns! Like you I usually have one easy square(usually a crochet mitre) and one patterned square on the go at the same time. I need the easy ones for work as there are so many bells that ring during the night( I am a nurse in a high dependency elderly care unit) that I completely lose track of patterns and at 3am it can be very difficult to work out where I should be(in every sense of the word;) )

I always take a square to school, and have maybe a quick 3 minutes at break so definitely need the non-counting ones for that. What an important job you do, and not something that anyone could just turn their hands to.

I have worked in the same unit for 19 years and really enjoy it (though maybe not always at 5am when answering what seems like the 100th bell of the night!) I was Matron for a while but I hated all the paperwork and legislation and much prefer the hands on side of things,so stepped down after I got divorced about 10 years ago and have never regretted it. I was a midwife, working on community and in SCBU, before I got married so I have covered both ends of the spectrum! At least on night duty there are occasional quiet spells but I have learnt from experience not to do anything complicated as it generally has to be undone again the next day:( -that's when the mitre squares come into their own.

I've done the pebble stitch square and it's a lovely texture, but even though I followed the pattern exactly it came out a bit at a slant. With a bit of wiggling it looks square enough now. Possibly not one for 3a.m!! On one called kitchen stitch now, new to me again and I like the texture.

my teaching is a bit like your nursing...seem to have done some of everything. All good experience.

I would love to see how your squares turned out, Anne. I haven't tried any from this site yet as I am busy knitting a Christmas Stegosaurus for my 2 year-old grandson!!

Thanks for your link Charis.  I also use the link below but have to adapt the patterns slightly because they are 6inch square.
