GLENROSE FRIENDS

I had a lovely afternoon yesterday, visiting an inner city music studio, where two sisters, Jayne and Joyce teach piano and violin, mainly to children and young people. They also run craft workshops during school holidays.

I had recently visited their mother who has been very poorly, and talked to her about KAS. After I had gone, she wondered what they could do to help KAS, and suggested the cutting die they used in their craft sessions could be used to make some felt shapes for use on my squares.

So when I visited the studio yesterday, expecting a few felt shapes, I was very surprised to meet a very enthusiastic Jayne and Joyce and a lovely variety of lovely felt animals, butterflies, trees, flowers and many other lovely, colourful shapes waiting for me!

To my surprise, they are going to adopt KAS as their charity for the year!
I will be helping to make a small display in the waiting room of the studio, and they will encourage pupils and their families to support in some way. They will also use the craft sessions to make suitable items, perhaps small soft toys, as well as squares. They will act as a collection point, and deal with packing and postage!

Joyce, the crafter, has told me to ask for any shapes that will be useful in the monthly themes, and wants a list of the themes so she can use her imagination!

Jayne encourages all of their pupils to perform in a concert each year for their family and friends, and has said that all proceeds from the concert will be for KAS. I was bowled over by their kindness and support.

I have known both Jayne and Joyce since they were teenagers, Joyce attended the youth club I ran at the church, and Jayne taught my son piano for many years, starting when he was 4years old - 30years ago!

The studio is called Glenrose, and so Glenrose Friends will be supporting KAS this year.

I will let you know how things progress!

  • I would like to thank you for the kind messages of sympathy with regards to my mother passing away. I know she will be pleased that we are still knitting and crocheting for kas, as this helped her through difficult times. On the weekend we sent off two parcels and have a lot more to send. Once again thank you to everyone. Joyce x

    • It's lovely to hear from you, Joyce. I hope that yourself and Jayne and your families are doing ok. I'm sure your Mum is watching over you all and giving you her nod of approval for your continuing efforts for the children in SA. Your Mum was one lovely, caring lady.

  • My sympathies and prayers go to the family of Joyce and to the Glenrose friends. What a wonderful example Joyce set for all who knew her or heard about her. She obviously found great joy in her life by thinking of others rather than her own challenges and I am sure she will be missed.
