Square Circle Forum

Hi  I'm Kate and I live in Bury Lancashire. I only recently learned how to crochet Granny Squares and I was looking for projects to try to put them to some use when I came across your site. What a great way to help children in Africa. I can't wait to get started!

Hello Kate, we can't wait for you to get started either!  By taking direct action we are all alleviating the lives of these deprived children, and, helping them to feel valued.  Hope you'll enjoy being part of our global community.

Thanks Pam. What a great way to get help to children!

Hello Kate, nice to meet you. Have you already checked out the wonderful "Photo" section on the main page? I find so much inspiration there!!!! Good thing it is easy to knit a square a day, lol. I feel like I have found my calling. Have a great time crocheting and let's all put our results up on the picture page!

Thanks Ute! No, haven't checked out the photos page yet but will do!

Welcome to KAS, Kate.  You can tell it takes all types here when I tell you that crocheting Granny Squares is really hard for me!  I always end up with long and short sides...go figure.  So I do rows back and forth but others, as you can see from clicking on Photos, in the header above, are going great guns on the Granny Squares and are very inspiring.  Practise makes perfect and one gets a LOT of practice here on Knit A Square.  It is indeed really rewarding to help the children directly, from our hands right to theirs.  Seeing a square or hat or sweater one made actually on a child is a tremendous thrill and sometimes one does.  If you click Main Page above, there's a slide show of photos and also links to the ezines, http://www.knit-a-square.com/Square_Circle-backissues.html which go into great detail about various settlements and creches (kids' shelters) and the distributions taking place.  Just FYI, the photo of the kids sleeping on bare linoleum...that creche got "adopted" by our USA members and they now have much improved conditions, including floor mats. All the link info you need is here:  http://forum.knit-a-square.com/

Thanks Jeanne. I will be checking out the links you have kindly included. I only know how to crochet from a center ring so at least the sides all stay the same length! Lol!

Hi Kate
