Square Circle Forum

All those sweet folks who asked to be my friend. I am delighted but it has taken me this long to navigate my way around to see who asked and then to accept. Many thanks and I hope you all have an acceptance now. Although does "ignore " written beside it mean its too late? Anyway I am now up with the play on how to do these things.

I can't believe I have another cold[or flu?]!!! My sick leave at work has reached astronomical proportions and I am very nervous about it. However, in the meantime another days work another days pay and I hope I can keep going!

I had a lovely day yesterday with my very big son. I wasn't sick then. We went to Spotlight my favourite place on earth for yarn. I bought ten balls for ten dollars and we tried on these silly masks and took photos of each other. Yes I know  the rule is don't touch if you're not going to buy but it was hysterical. So lovely to have fun with a grown up son. I then went to dinner with a dear friend and sneezed y way through her lovely dinner. there was a progamme on TV Midsommer Mysteries and the woman who got murdered had my maiden name. Nothing like watching yourself as the centre of a muder mystery! Unfortunately I had to go home before I found out who did it! Darn!

I am posting off a box full as only one of my smaller parcels has shown up in the count. Maybe  the others are taking longer to get there. Anyway it is fun to load up a box. A couple of Go Overs were hanging around and a vest so I could get them away too.

Catch up with your guys and gals later. I haven't seen much of Robert lately?

Hi Sue...it took me ages to realize I had an Inbox and messages in it. Duh, but I learnt everything from my kids, thanks to them I can get here at all, lol. Don't forget to mention your totals in the 2010 tally discussion and the 3 month Squares challenge. 10 balls of yarn? What colors? All acrylic or wool blends or? Sounds like fun, I'm getting bored with a shrinking yarn selection locally.

You sneezed your way through your friend's dinner? I hope she didn't think you were allergic to it. ;)
"Ignore" doesn't mean you're too late, it means what it says--ignore somebody, just an option I guess, for pests, but there's no pests on KAS, just yarnaholics, lol.

Sorry you've got another bug. I got a chest/throat bug for over 2 months...UGH. Apart from resting, sleeping, getting some vitamin C and vitamin E and eating good stuff I guess you've gotta tough it out. If you're already doing that, be aware that your body can dump stored up toxins out of your body and it seems like a cold at the time. So it could be a positive thing? Hope there's nothing at your workplace like mold that could contribute to the sneezing. So danged hot in the house right now and it's much cooler outside--I barely get it cooler by morning and then everything heats up again, go figure eh?

And by the way, bravo on having a COUPLE of Go-Overs hanging around and a vest--believe me they will find grateful owners. :)

Jeanne
Thanks Jeanne. I am so glad there is another snail in the throng of computer savvy KASers.Well I have basically spent the last two days sleeping -anywhere couch chair bed...I feel better tonight. I saw a programme that mentionedt UNICEF the other night and apparently some of the wells are pumping water with high levels of arsenic- so the scientist said and I thought, thank heavens we are making squares and blankets! It must be very disheartening for your efforts to have such a sad outcome.
The wool I got is a green blend 20% alpaca 60% wool and 20% acrylic. Lovely and soft and I have become a fan of the thicker wools, larger needles, and faster squares!I have learned from you Jeanne. Some of this lot is going to my second blanket for the next one of my sons. You know- one for him and then one for KAS.
There is a huge discssion about farmers inducing premature births on cows to ensure steady milk production. They are ging to change that I hope. Not good for our clean green image. I must go and txt my opinion on whether it affects consmer choices! It is a bit difficult when it is milk. Soy milk doesn't agree with me and rice milk is too high in sugar for a diabetic. Goats milk is OK but I don't know how they treat their goats! Sometimes its a worry trying to be a caring human being...
Sue your wool sounds just LOVELY. I have been looking online at the "blends" too. I am presuming they will not "felt up" like 100% wool might? I find, with my limited energies that the faster and easier I can do a square the better, and using two strands together really speeds things along and they get a thicker warmer square in SA which I hope they can just toss in with all the others.

Arsenic in the water wells--how discouraging. I am guessing that is from a polluted water table which might stem from industries? UGH. They have problems in Manitoba with the massive hog farms polluting local water tables, all the run-off gets into nearby wells. I do hope UNICEF finds a solution, or somebody to blame pays for the fix...I wish!

It is important not to forget family and friends while making squares etc. for KAS. Did your son already mention the colors he wants? Premature births on the cows...yikes, that can't be a good thing. And what do they do with the "remains" of the calf? Just thinking on that makes me shudder--into pet food or used to gain elements for medicines? Yuck. Surely that wouldn't be good for the cows either! Goats milk I find always tastes so strongly of goat smell that I generally can't force myself to drink it, same with their cheese, which is a shame as I've nothing against goats personally, some of them are so cute. :)

I'm wondering, if Midsommer Mysteries is a BBC series, if you could go online to their site and maybe order that episode you missed on what happened to your namesake? ;) I've never had that experience yet, thankfully. I can't imagine what I'd think to see someone in a show with my exact name. All I can say is, they'd better be "drop dead gorgeous" or I'm suing! LOL!

Regarding being a caring person: I get a regular "green" email from Care http://www.care2.com which summarizes all the warnings (like about carcinogens in makeup and foods) plus all the green initiatives going on, that are being published out there, which I love to read about all in one spot rather than go hunt on the Net. I have found out some great stuff from it, you might like it. It's a good mix of positives, general info that never gets on the news about health and nature, and some negatives/warnings too. You might enjoy taking a glance at it, it's not manic like some sites are.

Jeanne :)
Hi Sue,
I've only just noticed your blog. You are not alone in only slowly coming to terms with the site. I suppose it runs like Facebook which my son joined me to but I never use as it seems so public. I am so English that I had trouble with the site initially because of the term 'Add as friend'. I felt I should ask first (one needs to be introduced after all [!]) so I tried 'Invite' but of course that is something completely different. It took me ages to actually take the plunge.
Your yarns sound wonderful. An wool/alpaca mix for that price must be a bargain. I've bought loads of yarns this week because I got fed up with just using up donated yarns and having very little choice in what I made. An online seller in the UK was offering some clearance yarns at good prices so I treated myself. All acrylic but nice colours. I have a son who wants me to make him a blanket too but he wants a 'holey' one by which he means crochet. I'm getting there but he may have to wait a while yet.
I hope you are completely recovered now.
Well I suppose Christine that when it comes time to make your son his "holey" blanket it will be a "spiritual" experience for you? ;) (yes I love puns)

I am thinking similarly about treating myself to yarn as I go back to Walmart in hope of new yarn all the time and nothing there inspires me at all, not for the kids.

Sue I hope you are on the mend hon? Best to rest up and pamper yourself a bit, these bugs can drag on if we try to get up and move around too soon.

Jeanne :)
Here I was thinking I was the only one who got tired of the donated yarns......does this mean I can go shopping !!!
Though my Mom said a friend is giving her some yarn from another friend who doesn't like the bright pink she bought. I like being the recipient of "castoffs".
Sue, we watch Midsomer Murders every week on our public TV channel. We quite enjoy the series. I also know that Amazon.com carries the series in DVD boxed sets.
I use almond milk but I'm not sure of the sugar content. It might be an option if you used is sparingly ( and the unsweetened kind of course ).
Hope everyone is well.
Well, I'm certainly not ungrateful for donated yarns - I've had some lovely ones - but usually there is only a very small quantity and after a while it becomes a real challenge to mix and match some of them. I really neeed to make some hats and maybe a G0-over as some of the yarns aren't suitable for squares. I seem to have acquired several bagfuls of chunky yarns for which I'm sure I will find a use but I'm waiting for inspiration.
It is really, really nice to have some bright colours (and I love bright pink for squares) and I'm actually making plain janes which is unusual for me. My little scraps can even go into granny squares now!
I didn't realize that Midsomer Murders travelled so far - it's still on here too but I don't think that it represents a Britain that I recognise.
Sue, you mentioned Robert. The last I read he said that he and his son were needing a new computer so he was off-line for a bit except when he checks in occasionally at his local library. I think he's still knitting.
I definitely didn't mean to sound ungrateful either.....just wanted an excuse ( permission ) to buy more yarn !!! Our LYS has closed :-(
I did my part but it still wasn't enough to keep the shop open.
So has mine (but it's because the owner died).
I know what you mean about the donations - it's just nice to actually choose sometimes isn't it.
Thanks for that info Linda. Maybe a Christmas present from my sons. They are very keen on giving me DVD's for presents. It must be a guy thing. Almond mik that's a thought It must be good for you!
Always nice to suggest a Christmas present.....then you get what you want/need. My family does that every year for Christmas and birthdays. Makes shopping so much easier as we draw names for Christmas and have a $$ limit. Last year I asked for yarn for Christmas. May do that again this year! Though I'm having a hard time finding space for any more yarn !
My family knows I love Hobby Lobby so they give me gift certificates and I get to pick out what yarn I want. My gift cert. goes further when I can find yarn on the mark down shelf. A lady that works there said they get lists of dye lots in the different yarns and they are to pull those lots and mark them down. I have been getting them for $1.99. If anyone has an Ollie's Bargain Outlet near them they should check as they have Vanna's Choice 7 oz. skeins for $2.99. Im haven't been yet as it is an hour from my house to the closest but may go check out a daycare for my daughter there so if I do will stop. Ollie's marks down their books too. I have picked up some nice books at a reasonable price.
