Hi everyone
We have decided that to keep people fired up and motivated we are going back to smaller, 1- 3 monthly challenges.
In January we are doing "Jewels in January". We'd love it if you could knit/crochet beautiful, jewel coloured squares (and if you're up to it jewel shapes within the squares) for the children.
Imagine the bright, beautiful colours and shapes that we can create and in turn give the children blankets covered in a wealth of love and precious gems!
The challenge begins January 1, we're not back until the 10th, but I can't wait to come back to lots of "jewellery"!
Have a wonderful Christmas period everyone, see you in 2012 x x x

:-)
This might sound silly. What are jewel coloured yarns? Are we just doing squares in colours like red, blue and green?
Permalink Reply by Christine Johnson on December 24, 2011 at 2:23am Hi Bronwyn, welcome to the forum. If you've looked through the other categories you may have noticed that we are all trying to make as many squares as possible (a Squillion no less) as part of an earlier challenge.
Any square, whether knitted, crocheted or felted would be welcome in any colour, stitch, pattern or yarn so don't feel that it's necessary to make only 'jewels'. Those of us who have been members for a while rather like the idea from time to time of a new angle, something to focus on and encourage us to keep going. Yes, there will be lots of reds, purples, greens, golds etc and if you keep any eye on the photos section there will no doubt be some beautiful and imaginative examples posted to inspire us. But whatever you are able to make will be much appreciated and we're glad to have you join us.
thank you Christine. i will get started.

Great challenge. I also love jewel colours :) All the best for 2012 :)
I'm so excited to see a new short challenge! They are so much fun and keep me knitting along. Looking forward to a month of jewel tones!
Now how did you know that I have a huge stash of neon- bright colours which nobody in my family seems to want me to knit them a jumper with? Perfect jewel colours! Will start now as I don't do the Christmas cooking and have done all the decorations today. Best wishes to everyone for a Happy Christmas and prayers for the children !
Kalai, it would be great if you could point to a pattern you use and some suggestions to help us less experienced members. Happy Holidays and thanks.
Marla, any pattern you chose would work especially if it's done in a bright colour (see Megan's comment) or adding bobbles to the square would count as jewels. I have some sparkly yarn in my stash which I'm going to use to give the squares that glitter factor.
