Joining up with Knit a Square

Hello,

I am from Canada and have recently joined Knit a Square.

I have a son who is a volunteer in South Africa and also in Zambia and he is part of an organization called Hands at Work.  They work with communities in 8 different countries in Africa and they go out into community and work with the widows and the orphans, they look after feeding them daily and also helping with the education of the children.  I am wondering how we can go about working together with both of these organizations to get these blankets out to the children that they help. They are also looking for blankets for the orphans in Malawi which is another country that Hands at Work is working in.  I have been looking for an email to speak to someone regarding this and I can't find one on the blog or the website anywhere.  Can someone help to connect me to a person who would be able to answer some questions for me? How does Knit a Square pick where the blankets will be going?

Would love to talk to someone about Knit a Square and thank you all for the wonderful work that you are doing!!

  • Hi Kathleen,

It's lovely to hear from you, thank you for joining the forum and sharing your story with us! You must be incredibly proud of your son, working in communities to improve people's quality of life!

Currently KasCare distributes blankets to kids through Knit-A-Square South Africa, but we are also looking into the possibility of partnering with other organizations who operate in different parts of Africa (like Hands at Work in Africa) at the moment.

I'd be delighted to talk with you about your connection with Hands at Work, and possible ways that we might be able to collaborate. Perhaps you could send me an email at erica@knit-a-square.com and we can start a conversation?

  • Hi Kathleen, funny enough, this very situation is being discussed by KasCare - the international arm of Knit-a-Square - this very morning during a Skype session. I'll flag-up you Questions to Erica who is organising the newly formed KasCare Board.

Knit-a-Square South Africa is very much the grass-roots of the organisation.  In the next few months we will be defining the roles more clearly.

  • Hi Kathleen

I will flag this question up to Pam Antink.  Watch this space - I am sure she will get back to you.
