Square Circle Forum

Just wondering about all the 'little characters' from the past.

Hi all,  I needed to take a break from knitting squares for awhile (aching shoulder!) so decided to skim through all the e-zines from the beginning.  Several things struck me.  Firstly, just how far KAS has come in such a short amount of time and how being involved in it has given me a different outlook on life.  But then I began to wonder about all the 'Little characters' that have featured in Sandy's e-zine stories and where they are now and how they are doing.

Tiny 'Tilly' the premature baby wrapped in a beautiful baby blanket, Lovely Jamie who recieved the first KAS blanket, the 'Babies in a box' and who could ever forget the Hill Kid, wearing his bright purple hat.  I certainly wouldn't expect answers to any of the queries from the S.A volunteers, as I am sure due to the vast area and vastness of this project, it is unlikely that Rhona and her helpers will come across these children on a regular basis.  But it  is their stories that keep me knitting, in the hope that a gift of a warm blanket ( and everything else KAS achieves) will help these children in postive way, and I will always keep them in my thoughts.xxx

Yes, Claire, all these stories inspire me to crochet more squares. It is the thought of keeping a child warm that keeps the hook moving. Even if we don't hear about the children who received the blankets, I know we have made a difference in their lives. As Sandy has said, the squares are a "currency of hope" .
I agree that knowing about individual children, or even of the children in a specific creche, helps me to help the masses of needy children out there. It is very valuable to have names and faces...just sprinkled here and there. It helps me too. It helps me to realize there's an individual we will warm, encourage and give hope to, recieving every square we knit or crochet. Our work is loved and appreciated and I honestly sometimes think doing this gives more to me than it does to them, even though bundling a child in a warm blanket is SO important! A win-win situation for sure.
I wonder if Tilly was ever adopted? I would imagine there are so many babies that are needing a new family, it must outweigh the number of families wanting to adopt.
