"Found this little family on the road outside of Harare, Zimbabwe to give two blankets and a fluffy toy ... Beyond thrilled to get these welcome manifestations of love and hope from around the world.

Blankets are abundant in our Blanket Room and the shelves

are filling back up.  Check it out.

The deficit is just over $1000 US for the month of August.

August income has dropped and the KAS team has been trying to cut expenses but rent must be paid, fuel is needed for the KASvan for distributions as well as driving the Soweto members to and from the Barn each Tuesday.

KAS has cancelled Tuesday 25th in the KASbarn for lack of September funds … Ronda does not want to get into the habit of drawing funds from PayPal early in order to cope each month.

Ronda: “We have enough for the rental which will need to be paid on Thursday the 27th, plus a couple of thousand Rs for postal expenses and those things which are unavoidable.

It is a public holiday in SA on Monday 24th so it seemed appropriate to give the volunteers the next day off as well.

Themba will come through on Tuesday to do the post and we will meet again in October – on the 2nd.”

4 Ways You Can Help KAS

2. Visit the KAS Shop: See link on the top toolbar
3.”Use your stash; send the cash” [via Donate button]
4. Instead of sending a parcel this month, donate the postage money

SQUARES LIST

The August 2018 Squares List is available.

Because of the heavy workload for the small KAS Team, hats, handwarmers and toys will not be recorded anymore, but please keep sending them because they are desperately needed. In the 2018 Squares List the names of the senders, number of parcels and number of squares will be recorded. Please fill in the Packing Slip completely.

Please note that the office is inundated with packages and items on a weekly basis. The volunteers do their best, but it's impossible for them to list every single item that is sent. All efforts are made to list every parcel received. We thank you for your understanding.

The focus for 2018 and for some time to come will stay as is:

Squares for blankets, hats, handwarmers and cuddly soft toys.

MONTHLY TOTALS

In August we received  200 parcels containing 15.209 squares, equal to 434 blankets.

In total 105.116 squares, equal to 3.003 blankets!

Many other items were received, such as hats, handwarmers, go-overs, cuddly toys and other goodies.

WE THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR CONTRIBUTIONS!

Latest News From Leanne

My daughter Lauren is staying with me at the moment so she joined Bongi and I for opening day yesterday. She said the experience was "cool"! We thrust her into the midst of things by stationing her at the table opposite Estelle and letting her sort squares. She enjoyed combining squares of complimentary colours and was able to produce a couple of complete blanket packs, along with several incomplete piles of bigger or smaller squares.
