The 2010 winter Olympics are coming! and we would like to steal an idea from Ravelry and modify the Olympics into our own worldwide sport - the KASmpics winter games!
so to all my KAS knit-thletes and crochet-thletes, this is what we have been training for! KASmpics include events such as 'knitting for KAS' and 'crocheting for KAS'. everybody can participate in any event, you only need a hook or some needles and some nice cozy yarn.
How it works:
The official Olympic website says that the games start with the qualification round for ski jumping at 10:00 am on Feb 12, and go all the way to 5:30 on Feb 28. Within these hours, any items you make will be KASmpic items. For those of you who were with us in the very beginning for the April Race challenge, this is going to feel pretty similar. The goal is to see how many items we can make over a set period of time, all together, as a group.
The focus will be on bigger hats, vests and go-overs for the older children, staying in line with the February challenge of keeping the older children warm too. Of course if all you can manage is a few squares, then please do so - the older children need blankets as well, but remember that our focus is on older children and bigger sizes this time.
Have a look at the winter weather we will be getting in Vancouver, and keep in mind what those children will be heading into in their winter in a few months!
If you can make one vest, then congratulations, you have made one vest! If you can make 20 large hats, then congratulations, you have made 20 large hats! This isn't a true race with a winner/loser and a lot of pressure to knit away into the wee hours of the night, it's just to push yourself to see what you can do in a short amount of time - barring all injuries, please; we do not want anybody to have to ice their wrists after the games are over.
I will be in Vancouver during the games so I may not be able to watch the tally as well as I could be, but keep us updated with how many of each item are being produced and I will add them all up after the games are finished.
