On my blog we have been having a chat about all those good intentions we have to make gifts throughout the year. I thought I would start this off and perhaps we can add inspiration, patterns, ideas for gifts and pics of anything we have made ready for birthdays or next Christmas. I know we all beaver away for KAS but need to get those gifts made too. I usually only get as far as making a list of gifts I intend to make - then go out and buy things last minute. So let's support each other and see what we can produce this year.

Wonderful idea Pam. I made my sister a Moebius cowl (I love Cat Bhordi's Youtube tutorial) this year and she was so pleased with it that it made me think that I ought to make more of my presents. I do make our Christmas cards but I do not always write them until the last miniute!!

Well today I cut up all of the Christmas cards from mine and my moms houses to make gift tags for next Christmas. I know it isn't strictly a gift but it might help people get into the mood as they take down their Christmas decs. We will be keeping some to use and hopefully selling some for school funds at Harrisons school craft fair next December. He has been helping me cut them with some of his new crimped edge scissors that Santa brought him.
Happy crafting all.

Permalink Reply by Pam Johnson on January 3, 2012 at 8:52am Well done you - I am having a craft day with friends on Weds and will start making cards and gift tags to sell. the fancy edge scissors are a boon aren't they?
What a good idea for a discussion. I'm sure there will be some wonderful ideas and lots of support. I too, cut up the christmas cards for gift tags as I took the decorations down (at least thats got me started). I made my 2 nieces scarves using the can-can wool (I think thats what its called) and now my sister and mum want one for their birthday which both happen this week, so not going to be on time! I look forward to hearing all about your ideas :)
Permalink Reply by Pam Johnson on January 3, 2012 at 8:37pm Well you are all ahead of me already having cut up your cards - but I am starting tomorrow. I'm glad you think this blog a good idea - I think it could be good fun to share.
This is an interesting discussion, thanks Pam for starting it.
I also cut up cards for gift tags. I must admit that I sometimes(always) look at a card for its gift tag potential !
I'm not sure if anyone remembers but when I started with KAS I had to teach my 12 year old niece to knit as she wanted to join in and make some squares. Oh, how things are moving on. She has made a hat for KAS all by herself and is now using the pattern to make her grand-dad one and at this moment is also making a small knitted doll, her first attempt and with a bit of luck she will make some for KAS and probably some for next christmas as gifts. Unfortunately, she has been on the phone every 10 minutes this evening checking the pattern, as she has never followed one, and can only garter knit and not stocking stitch, but just goes to show how something like KAS can interest people of all ages and abilities :)
I will try to get her to let me take some pics when she has finished :)
Carol, that is wonderful that your niece is so interested ! Love to see photos.

Permalink Reply by Pam Johnson on January 5, 2012 at 10:04am Well, spent a really lovely day today with 2 friends. I made cards and taught another friend to crochet. They were laughing about how I would soon have her crocheting squares for ~KAS. Third friend doing some structural paper craft work. So many laughs - must do this more often as it is good for the soul.
So glad to find I am not alone in my sizing up of a card for tag potential as soon as I open the envelope!
I received lovely home produced gifts from my cousin this year...a jar of preserved lemons (used in Moroccan recipes) and a jar of cheese balls made from yogurt; this is a Palestinian recipe and they taste very similar to goat's cheese. Such a lot of time and thought went into all that, which means so much more than a bought gift.
My gift to my family is going to be: being better prepared and less fraught and grumpy over the festive season!!!!
