Square Circle Forum

Hello dearest KAS members

We have a new challenge for you for May and June. There is an opportunity in South Africa for a truck to be driven up to Zimbabwe filled with squares. Now we just need the squares to fill it. Mother of Peace in Zimbabwe will sew the squares into blankets and give them to children who are in such desperate need.

An exciting prospect and we need MASSES of squares to make it happen. So here's what you do: knit squares, lots of them! Address them to the same address:

Please mark them clearly as "SQUARES FOR ZIMBABWE" and there you have it. Children in Zimbabwe will be warmed and feel your love. Please keep a tally as we did for the bus challenge. Thanks everyone, and good luck!

What's roughly the goal number for this one?
Do they want squares made out of any particular kind of yarn, or should we just send whatever we have on hand?
2 months to fill a a truck...how many boxes or crates will the truck hold and how many squares are stuffed into a box or crate.... how  are the squares packaged for transport to fill the truck for Zimbabwe...which I guess is the same question Dawson is asking ....

I will get back to you Dawson and Paulette when I have an answer.

Rachel, whatever yarn you have is fine.

Hi everybody, we have decided to bring the remaining few squares and hats over from the bus challenge to the Zimbabwe challenge. So here is the beginning tally:

373 squares

137 hats

I hope you are all happy for us to do that?

are we doing hats also?

Hi Carol, yes hats too please. Thank you!
To bring comfort to the deprived & vulnerable Zimbabwian children is an excellent challenge.  This country has suffered from the kind of selfish leadership that is now finding itself on the 'back-foot' in the Middle East.  Let us hope that we can start that process, by continuing to demonstrate that our solid example of caring and direct action is the way forward. KAS members around the world use knitting & sewing needles and crochet hooks as weapons to make a positive difference - without creating fear.  Love, caring & support - rules, OK!
Do the squares have to reach KAS by a certain date?  Just wondered so that I know whether to send more small packets by airmail or whether I can wait and send a larger amount surface mail.  How exciting to be able to reach more children!
Hi Angela, the truck will be leaving at the end of June but we will always use the squares if they miss the truck. We are just trying really hard to up the squares so that we can fill the truck!
I am thrilled to learn that we now have an opportunity to help the children of Zimbabwe.  I have a few squares already made but will send a parcel as soon as I can.
Great! I'm fine with bringing the leftover squares to this challenge. I'm looking forward to striped squares to match the flag. I have the perfect yarn for it! :o)
