Hi everyone, just to introduce ourselves I am an activities coordinator in a residential home in Haxeyin England. Our residents have knitted over 400 squares and have just sent our first shipment. They all look forward to seeing pictures of the children with their blankets and to get new ideasand to be part of a great community.

Permalink Reply by Pam Antink on January 28, 2012 at 2:05am Thanks Chris this is music to our ears! Please do thank the residents and let them know that once the squares have arrived it isn't long before the Ladies of Soweto Comfort Club, our lovely team-workers and G4 inmates will sew them together. After which, they are quickly distributed to warm these vulnerable children. Thanks again.
Such awesome news Chris! Thank you x
What a wonderful job! Many thanks, and congratulations to all the knitters and crocheters who worked on all those squares! My Mom was in an assisted living center here in the states and she knit many squares for "her aids babies". She loved feeling that she was contributing to such an important cause and loved seeing the photos of the finished blankets surrounding the children. Her ALZ got so bad that she finally forgot how to knit completely, but I could show her the same photos on-line of blanket distributions, and she would just ooh and ahh over them for hours. I am so very proud that you have taken on KAS as a project by the entire residential home there! Great job by all!!!!
Hi Susan, can I introduce you to Trev he is my partner in crime so to speak in the care home. We are both activities coordinators and we both love working with our residents. Our ladies of the knitting circle also want to be introduced to everyone on the site so here goes. Ruth is our eldest resident and she doesn't mind me saying she is 97 years old. Jean, Kathleen, Marrie and Dulcie are also great knitters. They say it has given them a great interest and they find it is a worthwhile cause. Myself and Trev are encouraging some of the lads to see if we can get them to join us. I have promised to spend some time showing these ladies every Friday morning the updates and replies and any photos that are posted and even introduce them to the world of computers and emails. They are all looking forward to hearing from this great community. God bless x
Permalink Reply by Bev Jeffery on February 2, 2012 at 11:58am Wow! 400 squares is just terrific....and Ruth, Jean, Kathleen, Marrie and Dulcie, you are an inspiration to us all.
If I could be so bold..at some time, if possible..could you post a pic of your lovely ladies doing their knitting, Chris?
Chris and Trev, I think it is great that you have provided the ladies with this opportunity to be involved in something so worthwhile..I am sure they must have told you that themselves already.
Happy knitting everyone!
Permalink Reply by Ute Dancer on February 2, 2012 at 2:15pm Yep, that's a lot of squares!!!! How wonderful that is. I agree, I would love to see you all in action. Action-knitting, lol. Be blessed!
Hi Bev, I will be posting photos in the near future. Thanks for your comments I will pass them on to Trev and the team. Regards x
Permalink Reply by Philippa Green on February 3, 2012 at 12:25am This is wonderful! So great to hear that they are all keeping themselves busy and doing something so worthwhile at the same time! My grandmother (who taught me to knit as a child) now lives in a home. Unfortunately she has dementia and has lost all her spatial abilities so cannot knit any more but I knit with her in mind.
Its very sad when dementia strikes, but you will always remember the great times you and your grandmother had together and no doubt if you have children you will pass on those stories to them. Take care.
Permalink Reply by Pam Johnson on February 5, 2012 at 6:14am Wonderful Chris - so lovely for the residents to have a common purpose - your squares will be so well received - you are never too old to do something useful! Have you seen the past issues of the ezines with lots of pictures? - they will keep the ladies going until some new ones come up. this is the link to find them.
Hi Pam - We havent seen the past issues of the ezines yet but will do so in the next few days. Our resis are so exited with what they are doing and they are amazed that so many people are taking an interest in them also. They are determined to do something for the less fortunate children and it has given them a new lease of life. Thanks to everyone and keep the knitting going.
Permalink Reply by Bev Jeffery on February 6, 2012 at 2:05am This is lovely news..a boost for your wonderful folk and much needed warmth for the children. As Jeanne would say a win-win situation.
This must be great for you and Trev to see...the ladies' new lease on life ...it must make you both feel so good too.
