In the new E-zine (which is FABULOUS by the way!) Sandy mentioned that a new fee is being imposed: "now there is a new handling fee of ZAR25 (about USD$3 or 4) per box. It arrived unannounced and with no explanation. "

Is this a fee for each box no matter the size of the box? So would it be better to send many items in a larger box rather than a few small boxes? And does it apply to envelopes, padded mailers etc, or just to boxes? I want to ship my squares in the best way possible to minimize the fees that KAS has to pay.

Very good questions Julie. I'd like to know that too. I hope someone can enlighten us.
Here is Sandy's latest response which she asked me to put here as gremlins are preventing her from finding this discussion thread apparently:

Hello everyone, thank you so much for your heartfelt concern. Yes it did take Ronda completely by surprise and at this point she has had no explanation as to why this ‘handling fee’ has materialised. It is only on boxes, not envelopes.

Before you make any changes, we will get to the bottom of this. Africa presents many challenges. One of them is requiring patience to find the right person to provide answers. Along with Ronda’s other attributes has been patience when some of the shenanigans of the individuals in the post office would test the patience of a saint. However, the most important thing is that for all that, the system has worked perfectly in terms of safely delivering your work, despite its ‘pecadillos’ shall we say!

And in fairness RhondaH has a point, the volume in the post office has quadrupled as a result of the KAS post. But whether this is a decision at a local level or at HQ level, we are yet to find out. And it may just as easily be taken away. We will just have to exercise the same patience as Ronda. In the meantime if you able to knit over a month or two and send one box rather than two (AND IT DOES NOT COST YOU MORE TO DO SO!) then please do that, otherwise send as you have done before and we will get some answers eventually!
