SLIP-IN WISH LIST -  JULY 2013

Ronda's stocks of plastic wool sewing needles has been depleted due to the continued rise in the number of stitching teams!  Each of the new teams needs a collection of tools, especially these really useful needles.  Recently, blanket packs of squares have been taken to the distributions, and the local ladies have pounced at the opportunity to sew the squares into blankets!  Please see the lovely photographs of the Zenzele Stitching Ladies.

In addition, the next step on the KAS agenda is to respond to requests for knitting & crochet lessons at the Centres where the distributions take place. Therefore, we are asking for the following items to be included as slips-in items, so that the team will have a selection of stock to take with them to meet the demand for learning sessions.

PLASTIC YARN OR WOOL NEEDLES

Large Eyed Plastic Needles

Some members have been ordering these from China, and, arranging for them to be sent direct to South Africa.  However, if you have access to reasonably priced needles locally, please do add them to your next parcel.

YARN NEEDLES

14080

These are steel needles that are particularly useful when dealing with any close knit squares, especially when sewing the ends into the seams.

CROCHET HOOKS - all sizes

KNITTING NEEDLES

Please send 5mm size needles in long or short versions.

Many people find children's metal needles ideal for squares and more comfortable than long needles, they are also easy to slip-in! However, we do need stock of both types.

YARN IN BRIGHT COLOURS

Please consider depleting your stashes by adding one fresh ball of yarn as a slip-in!  We need banded yarns as they are much easier to transport and  remain tidy!  Also, it will help the enthusiastic people receiving lessons to feel valued and respected if they start off with fresh unused yarn.  In many ways sending a ball of yarn is as good as sending two or three squares, because it will help to kick-start and develop the skills that are so very much needed - right in the heart of South Africa.

For a warm square please send, wherever possible :

UK/Australia style - 8-10  ply or Aran

Canada/USA style - worsted weight

These are only recommendations as we very much appreciate your generosity in being willing to help KAS move forward.

Ronda has asked that those of you who already very kindly send partly used or un-banded balls of yarn, please continue to do so.  This yarn is very useful for many different purposes, and, especially so when some contributors forget to leave a tail!
