Square Circle Forum

Here's where we can post examples of people spreading the word both of KAS and of the children we seek to help.  In the last three days, these blog posts have come into my inbox through Google Alerts.  It is so amazing to see how people promote KAS and raise awareness all around the world.

Please let us know if you find something online, know of a church, community of school involved in promoting KAS and either post a link or a description of what they are doing, to help inspire the wider community to do more of the same.

Best way to spread the word and warm and comfort more children is by example.  Here are the first three links.  I hope there are HUNDREDS by the end of 2012.

Sometimes folks just spread the word for you!  I live in a rural area and one of the local newspapers has a column for each hamlet in the township.  The lady who writes the column for Leaskdale (my hamlet) may have been short of news last week, or maybe she just thought we needed a boost.  In any case, she included a few lines about KAS... and I have had three ladies call and volunteer to knit already!

Good to hear Anne, you can rely on knitters/crocheters etc to respond pdq!

Wonderful, a few lines and three more people knitting.

Do you think if people like this columnist knew that by doing as they have done, they are probably directly responsible for helping provide blankets for perhaps another 3 children or more, they would be delighted and inclined to do it more often.

That's great Anne.  Do you know if by any chance they posted it online?  If so, we could put the link up here

Well, I could just cut and paste your piece and change the name of the village Anne!  Someone I have had contact with in the past put a small piece about KAS in her village newsletter (about 10 miles away from me) and 3 new knitters have contacted me - all very keen.  I didn't know about the article so the calls came out of the blue.  I just love the way these little ripples keep on happening and more and more people join KAS.

It isn't online so cannot add article here (I haven't even seen it) but it's out there!

.. and another one emailed me today - so that's four very keen ladies joined up this week from a tiny village newsletter.

This is so great Pam and I agree 100%....it is so awesome seeing the ripple effect and how it just keeps growing!  I will be looking forward to hearing more about your "new" knitters!

I've been contemplating other ways of reaching out to people in my community.  One idea I had is to go down to our local senior center and see if I can offer to teach a crochet class.  Then out of that, gain some new recruits.  I don't really know many people in my area, but I would really love to connect with other knitters and crocheters, for the social opportunity as well as spreading the word about KAS further.

Congrats on making those connections and thank you for sharing it with us....such fun to hear about!

Hugs!

Mary Anne

Thanks Mary Anne - it is pretty easy to recruit knitters here - I could recruit many more but postage costs are always the issue - they all love to knit but not so keen to pay the postage - so I only take on those I can fund raise for.

I have just found out that the newsletter for the UK village where the 4 new ladies came from is on the Internet  - link here

The KAS article is on page 38 in a box.  This was kindly put in by one of my contacts without my knowledge.  I couldn't cut and paste just the box as I can't edit the pdf file but you might like to see what goes on in  a UK village if you look at the rest of it.

Thank you Pam, I will definitely enjoy checking this out!  I have really loved meeting people from all over the world and seeing how we come together in a common purpose!

And another one this morning from the South Yorkshire Times.

Isn't this a lovely photograph. Many thanks to the Village Home's residents for contributing 400 squares between them.  What a great story.

Hi Sandy - thanks for your comments. The ladies are now starting on vests and hats.  We cant keep up with them and they are 87 to 97  yrs of age.  They are enjoying doing something worthwhile.  Although my main job is administrator and activities coordinator it looks like most of  my time is checking the many emails and reading them out to all the residents.  All this has given them a new lease of life.  We will keep up the good work.

Hi Elizabeth, just wanted to say I had a look at your blog and what a lovely read. It made me smile (as I sit here in dressing gown)!  the thought of you using th ewheelie bin to move books, great idea and always being prepared, totally agree with that (you should see my handbag)  lol
