Square Circle Forum

Part of the July challenge was to try and get some new people involved with KAS. At the end of June I was reading our parish magazine and when I got to the part which asked for contributions for the next addition, it seemed like the perfect opportunity. I emailed the editor who said he would be delighted to include my piece on KAS; it has now been printed and will be distributed in the next couple of weeks. Hopefully I'll get some new recruits.

In anticipation of the magazine being printed, I put a poster up in the church porch, although very few people seem to take any notice. Tonight at mass, we had an african missionary priest from the Holy Ghost Fathers. He talked about their work in Africa and at the end, he said something along the lines of, what is our life for, if we don't use our talents to help other people. At the end of mass, I siezed my chance and showed him the KAS poster and explained a bit about it. He was very interested; I asked if the Holy Ghost Fathers produced a newsletter or magazine and if there was any chance they could give us a mention. He asked if he could take the poster with him, which he did. I don't know if anything will come of it, but it was certainly worth asking. If nothing else, we may be remembered in a few extra prayers!

I believe that priest was right on the mark. What IS our life for if not to help others? Follow Jesus, do as he did and he continually went around doing good. And what's more I get such a charge out of doing it! I think you've really got a ball rolling here. Bravo! I'll be most interested to hear what happens next, how many recruits you get. Way to go!
Well done, Diane! That is exactly how we are going to help KAS grow... and well said. Jeanne
I love all this talk...so many of us (maybe all of us) in this group feel the same way...my only problem, not enough hours in the day, and could sure use an extra set of fingers..hahah.....but that is just what the Bible says...we are here to help those in need...so well said all of you...and keep on keeping on!!!!
I was helping at my mom's church Christmas fair and during my tea break I sat and crocheted. I was spotted by some members of the 'Last Wednesday' club who meet monthly and asked me what I was doing. I have been invited as guest speaker to one of their evenings early next year. I will happily go along with blankets, squares and KAS leaflets in hand. Hopefully I might drum up a bit of support for donations, money or something. I'll keep you all posted.
Jeni
Jeni - that's wonderful - I think if we could just find opportunities to be 'guest speaker' at more functions, we would enlist a lot of knitters. And - the leaflets work too - someone mailed one of mine to a lady who lives about 40 miles from me. She told her friend - who is bringing her 100 squares this week... and the lady who got the leaflet has about 80 done. She is a senior without much money so I mailed her a box of yarn - she's almost gone through it in a week or so... and she told one of her friends about us... and her friend is giving her some money to go out and buy more yarn.... and so it goes.... like ripples in a pond..... it's amazing

I plan to send out some of Sandy's great "intoductory letters" in January to local groups and churches to see if I can get some speaking "gigs" too
My phone rang this morning and it was a senior lady who had donated 37 squares last fall. She is a friend of one of my church friends. At Christmas I took her a bag of homemade cookies and one of our KAScalendars
She called today to say that she had made making squares her January project and that she had a bagful for me to pick up. When I got there the bag was huge - she had made. 144 squares in one month!!

She’s going to take a break for a few weeks to make some things for her grandchildren - but promises to do more squares. The best thing is, she loves the calendar and is showing it to all her friends... and when they see it and hear about our project they are all saying “We could do that too” Spreading the word is like ripples in a pond.......
Maybe I ought to buy a calendar and do the same thing at my church; word of mouth just doesn't do as good as something visual and telling someone who doesn't have a computer to look it up. You are such a blessing in this charity that I can't say enough of all the great work you do and have done for these children!! I'm sure you are staying quite busy with making many things like GO-Overs with all these squares you're receiving!!
May God Bless you dearly, Anne
I just fixed 2 big postage bags with 59 squares in them and 1 hat....same thing with me...people from church gave me these squares...so it really is kind of nice...with all my other charity projects I haven;t had much time to do squares, so these ladies are doing them all for me...and I send them off...then one of my other friends said...you can;t pay all that postage, so she handed me $15.00....I hated to take it but it all helps....she would rather pay then bother with sending them etc....so 59 squares to add to the list...
