SQUARE CIRCLE VIDEO EZINES

Hello dear KasFolk,

After a gap of way too long, you will shortly receive the first ever Square Circle Video Ezine (that is if you are a subscriber to Square Circle).  You can join here.

We have been thinking for some time about the best way to get you regular news of the work you do as it unfolds in South Africa, and now Zimbabwe, that does not tie up our limited resources.

This first video is a start.  It's more efficient for Ronda to send short video clips and for me, shortly with the help of Leanne, to compile them this end, then the lengthy written ezines and coding that went to put the ezines of old together.

The other great aspect of the video version of the ezine is that You Tube is great for searches and will find us more stitchers, who I hope will join our ever-growing KasCommunity.

Please will use this discussion to give us your feedback (bearing in mind that I am an amateur film maker!)

Let us know too, your thoughts about what you'd really like to see in the future.

We look forward to receiving video from you too.  Especially if you are involved in a knitting group, school or church.  Using your iphone makes it so easy these days and all you have to do is send it to sandy@knit-a-square.com

I hope you enjoy this as much as I enjoyed making it for you.   The wonderful singing at the beginning and end is the Phiri Parish Choir of which Lindiwe is a member in Soweto.

With warmest wishes and grateful thanks for all you do.

Sandy and the KasTeam

  • wow that moved me to tears what a wonderful dedicated group of people to battle to achieve what they do so glad i can play a very small part

  • Yes, it is a wonderful video, definitely pulls at the heart strings. The children have nothing and yet they smile.  They are so appreciative of what they are receiving.  Lovely to hear Pam's voice as well :-)

Nice to be reminded of the Soweto Gospel Choir concert in Philadelphia.  Debbie did a wonderful job of coordinating everything and especially coming up with the idea !!   We were all madly knitting/crocheting squares and in many cases sewing them together well into the night so that they were posted in time to arrive before the presentation. Blankets came from the US, Canada, the UK and NZ.

Here's a link to the photos Debbie posted of the event. [click 'previous' to see the other photos]      http://forum.knit-a-square.com/photo/soweto-gospel-choir-concert-3/...

There is also info about the concert in this ezine [scroll down the page] http://www.knit-a-square.com/Square_Circle-whats-happening-KAS.html

    • Thanks, Linda! Yes, the sewn-up blankets came from people like you from all around the globe. I was moved to tears every time a box arrived and I handled the blankets with awe and admiration for the women who stitched them and for the children who would receive them. Jackie Sousa from Massachusetts and her employer were key in mailing the blankets to Soweto. It was a team effort all around and I have such wonderful memories of the process and the presentation/concert. What a wonderful experience!

    • Thanks so much for these links, Linda! What a colossal achievement for all of you involved!!

  • Oh I have cried at the latest enzine! I love the videos and prompts me to pick up the knitting needles though I only do plain janes and sometimes a hat or two! It's lovely to be reminded that we are all making a difference especially at this time of year when everything is so hectic.

    • Julie, Plain Jane squares are so important !  As Susan has said, when joined together they make beautiful and warm blankets for the children.  Every square is important.

    • I agree!  It is wonderful to see these videos with our work and the children's smiles.  Like you, I am a plain jane knitter, but as we can see from the video, the many squares all join together to make beautifully colored blankets, and it is so heart-warming to realize that so many loving knitters and crocheters join together to help keep so many children warm with a touch of that love.  I love this organization and everyone involved in it.  I have made many friends through KAS and am so proud that such a grass-roots organization can really come together to help others.  I applaud Ronda, Sandy, Pam, and the entire team who keep this organization going strong.  May more join us on this wonderful mission!

  • Once again, tears and joy intermingled! The gospel choir and Roger's poem, extraordinary!

So wonderful to hear your voice, Pam!

  • Just  reminder that Sandy has mentioned on the video that once the calendar is downloaded please feel free to send it to family and friends - spreading-the-word is so vital!

  • I've just seen the video and am so excited to see a little girl with a doll I made, it's the first time I've seen anything of mine actually on here.
