Hi Michelle: The SCC Ladies need 1 meter (1 yard) for sewing the squares together. Leave a tail that long. Welcome to KAS!
Claudia is correct that 1 meter (or approx. 1 yard/39") is a long enough tail. Just a note, that instead of being attaching, they'd prefer you weave in both ends (cast-on and cast-off) and then add a length or a butterfly of yarn...that's not attached.

A lot of the pictures, including mine, do show it attached but most of the pictures were taken before the latest issue of the e-zine came out. At the bottom of the issue, Sandy addresses the change. They thought they needed more yarn for sewing up, but it turns out that's not the case. :-)
I used to send 6 1/2 feet of yarn with the squares, now I am making it 5 1/2 feet of yarn instead, and not attached to the squares.
Congratulations on completing your Square 1. Are you knitting or crocheting?

There is important instructions for posting the squares here, http://www.knit-a-square.com/postal.html
just in case you have not seen them.

As RondaH already said, we have recently been asked to put one metre of matching yarn in with each square, but to put it in loose, not attatched to the square.

Are you subscribed to the Ezine?
I just found this message which answers my question, thank you.
or heres an idea - just send a small scrap ball of yarn in the same package as a bunch of squares, just make sure that is had enough yarn in it to account for all the squares that are in the package.
