Hi Helen, Welcome to the Forum! You can find information about shipping on the main knit-a-square site (4th tab at the top), but here's a direct link to the information: postal information

Be sure to mark the outside of your parcel with For charity only and No commercial value.

This is the shipping adddress:

Knit-a-square
Soweto Comfort Club
Private Bag X900
Bryanston 2021
South Africa

I've sent 3 parcels so far, and the first two arrived in 10 or so days from the US. Hope this helps, Rhonda
Thanks for the welcome and the info, Rhonda!
Welcome to KAS Helen! :) The photo is kinda tiny but is that little fellow wearing a sweater you made for him?

Jeanne :)
No, it's just a shirt!
Just found KAS last night while surfing the 'net.
I have a huge quantity of leftover yarn. Began
squares last night. My grandchildren are in good
shape knit-wise so have time to do this now.
So glad to find a worthy project.
welcome to KAS Hellen!

This is a wonderful community and I think you will enjoy being with us very much.

theres some tips on posting your squares that many people have found help them out a lot - squeeze as many squares as you can into a freezer bag, then remove all the air - some people have tried vacuuming the air out, I just sit on the bag gently and then seal it up. You can get a lot more squares into one package this way, and it will save you money to send squares in bulk.

The average seems to be about $1 a square, but by stuffing them in freezer bags and sending them the long way (by land instead of by air) I have been paying about $0.70 per square.

include a note with your squares that says what the yarn is made of; ie. "100% acrylic," or "85% wool 15% acrylic", or if you haven't a clue then just write "unknown blend". It doesn't matter what yarn you use, just make sure that it is written down somewhere because the blankets are being divided up according to what they are made of for safety purposes.
Hi, Kyla.........my church in Houston, Texas, U.S., is planning to start a KAS
group, and I am looking for the cheapest way to send the squares. The
post office said this morning there is no more sea posting so I guess it all
goes to Africa from here by air. A 6x12" Priority flat rate box with up to 20 lbs.
can be sent for $54.95. I am searching for a cheaper rate. Any information
that would help us???
I don't know much about the US postal services, but its a shame that they are not sending by sea anymore.

The only other thing I can suggest is find a company that is going to send down a lot of things to SA, in a huge shipping crate, and see if you can't have your squares added in. Its a shot in the dark I know, but my mom said that doctors send large shipping crates of supplies sometimes, and it takes a very long time to get there but essentially goes for free. (and my mom works with nurses and doctors all the time so she knows what shes talking about)

if there is somebody who would be wiling to help you out on this, you may want to investigate the possibility of mailing your squares to somewhere else, to another knitter/crocheter who is also mailing squares to SA, and have them include your squares in their packages if they can send by sea. Usually this would work out to be more expensive to pay the two postal rates, but in your specific case it may work out cheaper. If you can post to another state for instance, and then somebody from that state can post their and your squares by sea. you'd have to look up the prices and see if it would be worth it.
It appears that all the U.S. states must now send international mail by
air so I guess mailing to knitters in other states won't work.

Our church may offer to pay for some of the postage, and I am
going to suggest a "love gift" be given by each knitter (a couple of
dollars) each time we meet for a knitting session.....maybe every other week.
