Square Circle Forum

My son and family have just spent the last weekend in our local hospital as
my 2 year old grandson has developed a huge swelling on his neck :( We have been
told it is probably cystic hygroma, which is a congenital malformation of the
lymph glands and we will know more after an MRI scan this week. The prognosis is
fairly good though can require ongoing treatment and surgery so this is a
worrying time for all of us .Thank heavens for my knitting and crochet as this
has helped to keep my hands occupied and my mind from turning somersaults! I
have been teaching my 'adopted' 9 year old grandaughter to crochet too and
although she has attention deficit disorder she loves to sit with me , doing
single needle knitting as she call it! Her efforts turned out like a love
heart(more by accident than design!) so she was thrilled to bits! I often think
how lucky we are to have our creativity to help us throught the tough times in
life.

Hi Charis,

I'm sorry to hear about your grandson ,I hope everything goes well for him.

love

Sharon.

Thank you, Sharon. At the moment he is bouncing around like Tigger so at least it isn't making him feel ill and although it probably can't be cured completely hopefully treatment will help to manage it.

Hi charis

Had noted that you had not been on forum for a couple of days.

Your family are in my thoughts and prayers- we have three grandsons.  The last one spent some time in hospital after his appearance into the world.  It is so difficult for grandparnets - we want to help but are often the butt of frustration  and tiredness. I trust that the outcome is good.  you are right - it is good to have a distraction.  My eldest grandson likes to make cards with me and always asks after my special box.

With love

Charis I hope things go as well as they can under the circumstances...like you I've found knitting invaluable during difficult times. It was the one thing I could control and predict and enjoy when  the rest of life had been turned upside down.

If you KNOW what the problem is and you know it can be managed if not cured, it's an awful lot easier for everyone to cope.

Sending lots of positive thoughts to you and your family Charis. I hope that your little grandson gets better really quickly x x x
Thank you all so much for your support. Thankfully we are all a close family and going through tough times in the past has brought us even closer together. Knowing what is wrong does make it easier to cope with and Charlie is a very active and determined little boy so I am sure that will work in his favour. xxx

Hi Charis.  I became a grandmother twice in 2011 and I now know what it means to worry about grandchildren! They are so precious and loved.  I hope all goes well for your little grandson and that he continues to' bounce' his way through his treatments! Hugs and blessings

Kate xx

Thank you for your kind wishes, Kate. Charlie is thankfully usually a sturdy little boy though he has been rather out of sorts this week- we just have to keep a careful eye on him until the hospital decide the right course of treatment..

Grandchildren are such a joy, aren't they?

Absolutely Charis but until you have them you would never believe how much of a joy they truly are!
