Square Circle Forum

Sometimes it is good to air your problems.

My name is Jennifer and I am a yarnaholic.

Thankfully my stash doesn't look all that scary in this picture. Okay not quite all of it is here and some of is is hiding behind others but it doesn't seem too bad does it? I'm sure there are many more of you with bigger bundles lurking in your homes.

To the left is 2 baby blankets for family babies, a big pile of squares I'm working on for KAS and my March hats which I haven't posted yet. To the right is a bundle of pieces for a friends wedding present blanket which is cream and light blues. The very front has a bundle of beautiful cotton/silk mix that I bought a year ago to make a throw-over for myself but haven't gotton round to it yet. Front right is one of my hat looms with a hat started on it. 2 of my other sized looms also have the beginnings of hats. I wanted them all to be started for a talk I am doing at the end of the month so that everyone there can have a go at hats, knitting or crochet. No one will escape having at least a little go.

Well I have shown you mine, now you show me yours (if you think you're brave enough)

Wish you could have heard my laughter when I saw the above!!!
I can't add a photo until tonight when the price of going on line is vastly reduced. I love those great big balls. My little yarn shop (the backend of a haberdashery) has just three like that. You have some lovely colours
I must admit that the colour range is more luck than design. I was given lots of yellows and greens. I have used up most of my lastest blues in my current projects. The bright pink and black was a batch I bought in a local 'cheap' grocery store - Aldi. My stash was very blue and white for a while but it now seems to be quite pink - never gets much smaller, just changes colour. I look forward to seeing your confession later.

Well, I for one, refuse to admit to anything at all when it comes to stashes (too embarrassing). Besides - yesterday someone tipped me off that there's a funny little shop in my town, on a back street, that sells yarn reclaimed from store closures etc. and I am going there today - so my already too large stash might turn into a KASmountain by the end of the day.....Sigh..... isn't it lovely????
Well, I did fully intend to buy no more yarn for at least a couple of weeks but failed. My sister learnt to crochet recently and (with a little help from her sister) she has now made all of the squares she needed. Of course she has given me all of her left-over bits - browns and creams which I have already started to make into KAS squares. but on Sunday we just 'popped' into a yarn shop to get her some inspiration for her next project and I found some very good deals that I just had to buy, I mean it would just have been ridiculous not to. So I now have 7 new balls and a whole bag of bits to add to my ever decreasing/increasing stash. Ooops!!!
Jeni
Jeni,
you haven't added to your stash, just started a 2nd one!!!!!! (or 3rd/4th/5th......)
My principle is that 'stash' is made of of yarn purchased by me. On that basis, I don't have a proper stash, just remains of 100gm skeins I bought for grand niece and nephew's 1st birthdays.
The bags of yarn lying around the flat are donations from Linda S, and members of knitting group.

I can honestly stand up in this group of yours and say>>>'' My name is Enid, and I am NOT a yarnaholic''

LMBO at all three of you! We are a hopelessly devoted to our crafting aren't we? I love that our addictions are translating into hope and warmth and love for little kiddies half a world away. Just gotta love that. Long live stashes.

He/she who dies with the biggest stash wins! (a variation on my quilter friend's motto of "she who dies with the most fabric wins!") Okay okay, ideally we'll have made it all up into squares, I know, I know....that's another reason to use it all up, then I can go shopping for MORE yarn.... heh heh heh.
I do keep trying to use mine up as quickly as possible so that I have an excuse to buy some more but before that will ever happen I keep buying/receiving more. It's a challenge that I enjoy- sort of racing with myself even though I know my other self (the stash collector) will always win.

well I am truely hopeless I am using this jo annes yarn and decided I loved it and had to have more so guess what I am doing yes you guessed going on line to buy it may even have my son put it on his credit card ok this is getting bad shh don't tell my husband. I use one and but 3 more doesn't seem to make since but want to get it now in case they run out right. I may get some more bernat ombres fun to knit with.
I wanted to make a comment that I wasn't going to enter the joanne contest because I didn't realize the charity with the most items get money too. I certainly can't make anything prize winning but now that it will help kas I will definitely try to do something, I wonder if anyone else missed out on this part of the contest. I know there is a blog on it and we did announce it on main page for awhile but thought it may be good to repeat it.
2nd stash? Okay that seems a bit better, or does it? I kind of like to think that I can control my addiction but if I allow myself to have extra stashes.... well who knows where it could lead. It's a worry.
I can't even claim that my stash is bits of left overs as I always use up the little bits first - I enjoy doing that, but as a result, my stash always seems to become more and more whole and bigger balls of yarn. Hmmmm
Jeni

Having been given a bag of small, mis-shapen knitted diagonals I thought I would make a Jeni blanket and use up all my little bits whilst practising granny making. I sort of did but it made me realize just how many small balls of yarn I had - when I'd made 48 small squares it hadn't made a dent in my drawer of oddments. I have now sorted it, removed the larger quantities to another room (or two if I'm honest) and just for the time being it's looking quite orderly and colourful. That won't last but I think the yarn might.

That's really pretty, Christine!
That's a nice stash and a very pretty blanket. Nice job! It's kind of fun to finish someone else's UFO. :D
