Square Circle Forum

Hi All,

Do you any of you knit / crochet the squares with 100% wool? I feel quite bad because I am only using the cheap Acrylic wool, but firstly there is hardly any "proper" wool available and / or secondly you pay a lot of money for a 50g ball.

What are your thoughts?

I think each of us has to decide what the knitting and crocheting we do for Knit-a-Square means to us.

When I first heard about Knit-A-Square, I thought that I should only use 100% wool because that would reach the children who lived in the worst conditions. As I've been working on squares and hats and vests for KAS, my thoughts have changed a bit. Now I feel like I want to help as many children as I possibly can. Using acrylic means that I can do more on the same budget.

If I was given the choice between spending R50 on wool and R50 on acrylic -- a year ago I would have picked the wool but today I would definitely pick the acrylic. My feelings might change again in a few years, when I (hopefully) have loads more money to spend.

For me, for now, I pick acrylic.

I know what you mean. R50 will get you 3 x 100g balls of acrylic compared to maybe 2 x 50g balls of wool. 300g of acrylic equals 12 crochet squares which is 1/3 of a blanket :)

LOL. ok, acrylic won hands down ;)
