Permalink Reply by Jean Strange on February 29, 2012 at 6:27pm Hi Chris. Go for it. I have been growing tomatoes this way for two years now and they are delicious. If you can buy one of those hanging bags you only need to put one plant in to get pounds of tomatoes. Very easy to grow. Put the tomato plant through the hole at the bottom and fill up with good compost from the top. Water each day (about one pint) very important as they need lots of water and feed once a week with tomato food.(from the top) You will not be disappointed. They can also be grown in hanging baskets but I found the bags are much better. If you do use baskets you would probably need two or maybe three plants. When they start to flower you wil see how many toms you are going to get as each flower will turn into a yummy tomato. Good luck
Thanks Jean. It's good to have the info from someone who has tried this. We are still in the grips of winter but your comment brings a reminder that spring will soon (?) be here !
Permalink Reply by Jean Strange on March 1, 2012 at 11:09am Hi Linda, glad the info was helpful. We are doing quite well here in the UK we have had a very mild few days, sometimes in double figures (plus not minus :). Was chatting with my son last night and the weather in PA is still pretty cold. They have just celebrated their Winter Festival and are now in the clearing up process. A good time was had by all from what I have been told. The Canadian Challenge Sled Race was quite impressive -we don't have anything like that over here. Anyway roll on spring. I have already got some plants on the way. Love the warmer weather and can't wait to get back into the garden. Must get back to my knitting. ttys.
