HI Bev Jeffrey, no number 5, but first for this couple. This daughter in law has been the only one interested in hand knits, apparently they are very vintage

Sure is, Tricia....making a difference, one square at a time.  :))

Is this your first grandbaby?

Comment by Tricia Hughes on August 9, 2015 at 9:00pm

Gosh I am so slow, 2.5 squares done in between baby knitting for grandbaby due October. I guess 2 is better than none and each one is a wish to the world to make peoples lives better.

Hi again, Everyone. Linda has posted a new inventory form, which is hoped will assist in avoiding those exorbitant and pesky customs duties in South Africa. Here is the link. http://forum.knit-a-square.com/forum/topics/2015-revised-packing-slip

If you know of other KASers who post parcels, but don't log into the forum and therefore may not be aware of these forms or the issues we have had with SA customs charging duty to Ronda and the Team, please, please, share this form and relevant info with them. Team South Africa really does work on a shoestring and any extra charges, such as customs duties can really 'break the bank'. Thanks everyone. Happy knitting/crocheting.....and thank you for all that you do.  :))

Hi to all you WONDERFUL contributors from Oz and  NZ. I am copying/pasting to our group a VERY IMPORTANT  message that Pam and Linda have received from Ronda in South Africa. Please take heed and spread the word to other Oz/NZ forum members that may not be a member of our group

Note from Pam:

This week another 10 parcels had to be returned for re-assessment because people had placed values such as $50 on their parcels - South African Customs are desperate to raise funds and the bill for these ten parcels was assessed at $1300 ($105.50) - if these parcels do not come back with a reasonable assessment, they they will have to remain with SA Customs, who will most likely dispose of them, which would be a shame, and, a waste of some kind-hearted person's effort & postage.

Knit-a-Square is so strapped for cash, we simply cannot pay for parcels that have these estimated and inflated values!

Please tell as many people as possible the need for  the change of the parcel declaration to "BONA FIDE GIFT FOR CHARITY - NO COMMERCIAL" that needs to be on the front of all parcels, and, please please do not add a value of more than "1" on parcels - preferably "0"

Thanks for taking the time to read this and please spread the word.

What a great idea, Bev.  Thanks for stepping up and offering to do this.

Hi Elaine.

I am thinking of setting up an Aussie rental fundraising appeal for those who do not have or do not want to use paypal. Although I don't have a paypal account of my own, I do have access to one. I was thinking that people who have a cheque account could send a cheque to me and when a cut off date was decided upon, I would then paypal the money directly into the South Africa 'rental' account. Helen Flagg, one of our moderators in the US, has done fundraisers for KAS in this manner before and very successfully. It would be very transparent with members able to advise me (privately if required or here in this discussion) of when and how much they have sent and they would receive an email from me upon me receiving it. When we reached the cut off date and I processed the paypal payment, your name would appear in the "Pay the Rent' discussion, along with the total of funds raised. What do you...and anyone else, think??

We can become Mandela Mamas!!

Hi Bev, I would love to do it and deposit money into a local(Aussie) account on an ad hoc basis so that whatever I can afford to pay does not get eaten up by international bank charges.

Hi Everyone....just wondering, if there are any AUSSIES that would love to be a Mandela Mama in the 'Pay the Rent' discussion, but cannot do so, due to not having a paypal account?
