Square Circle Forum

Hi Aussies

We need a square count of our own. It's easy each time you finish a square or send one you add a post to this discussion. So we'll start with me. Altogether I've knitted:

18 squares
0 hats
0 jumpers

Well, I don't know exactly how many squaresI have knitted - I think it might be around 40 now. I'll start keeping an exact tally from now
So with Pamela's 40 squares the tally is:

562 squares
30 hats
61 jumpers
4 other
Dear Kalai,

Since sending 4 go-overs and 2 baby blankets (36"x36") to Soweto Comfort Club last month, I've knitted 48 squares.

Will continue with the marathon square knitting ..
Excellent Evelyn, you should add those to our tally. For example, your numbers bring the tally to:

610 squares
30 hats
65 jumpers
2 baby blankets
4 other
Dear Kalai,

In reference to Rona Malewit's suggestion that "we carry our own personal totals in our update posts as they grow", can you tell me how I can do so?

Thanks for your help.
Hi Everyone just a quick tally on all my knitting and crochet.

40 squares ( 12 already sent )
11 beanies
2 jumpers.

With a little help from Mum to.

In June I posted (by sea mail) 36 squares and four knitted tiny teddies (which had been looking for someone to love). I didn't add them to the count at the time, hence this post!

Can someone tell me is there somewhere for us to bring or send the squares to

Hi Margaret, we'd love to afford a distribution depot, but having only started from an idea in October 2008 we do not have the resources.  All squares etc have to be posted to South Africa direct.   Members or Church Groups hold coffee mornings etc to raise funds for postage.  In the KAS organisation no one is paid, all donations received are used for the website/forum and the distribution costs for Ronda to travel to the various Orphanages or Groups. Sandy has applied to over 20 Foundations in the hope of raising additional funding, but the 'money angels' seem to be ignoring KAS at the moment.  Here in the UK we have been fortunate to attract the attention of Liz Snowden the marketing manager for Jigsaw Clothing Shops.  Until Christmas us UK Kasers can take all our squares to their shops and they have arranged for them to be shipped to South Africa.  Let us pray that soon some other companies around the world who believe in business social responsibility will take up this wonderful cause.  Our global knitting family by taking direct action really make a difference to the lives of these children.  The postal address is Knit-a-square, Soweto Comfort Club, Private Bag X900, Bryanston 2021, South Africa. Parcels need to be marked No Commerical Value, Charity Only.  You will need to find a friendly Post Office in Oz, as sometimes members have met with disagreeable postal clerks - you may find some discussion on this subject on the main Downunder page.  Hope this helps!
