Please visit the Photo tab on the Forum when you have a moment. We have posted lots of photos from a distribution to Kathorus Orphange in Thakoza (SA) - you may even spot a square, hat or two that you created!

If the schools you are working with allows it you might even share some of these videos/photos with the kids.  I think it would be a good idea to share with the teachers/administrators for sure.

Rona,  I hope things get better for you at home soon, as you say you have to get through it one day at a time.

My group have hit a wall so I am designing a toy monkey pattern for them all to have a go at in between knitting squares. We do work for other charities and over the past few weeks we have had a few thankyou letters(one from KAS) so the group have been so excited. That in its self is a good motivator.

Sorry I haven't been on the forum in a while; I have stressful family issues I'm working through right now, one day at a time. Hope everyone's school programs are doing well. We're wrapping up a term shortly, and opening it up to new kids then. I'm trying to teach them a little something new each week - how to pick up stitches to knit a log cabin square, how to knit an i-cord, things like that, so they learn something new each week and grow their skills besides knit and purl.

 

How is everyone else doing?

My son and I are off to our school's holiday bazaar this morning, where we have a booth for our Square Circle Knitting & Crochet Club! We're selling mini KAS square ornaments for $2 to help raise money for our club's postage fees this year. Every ornament sold will have a KAS business card attached. :)

We also have handouts - cards and rulers - to spread the word about KAS!

Will post pictures later and report back how it went!

My little group has been going again for about three weeks. We have three new starters,so eight girls in all plus a grandma the head and me. Last year(school year that is) we managed to send off five GO OVERS and approx' 25 squares,not bad I think for such a small group.

Hi all - hope you had a wonderful summer! School started again here in August, and our knitting/crochet club starts this Thursday, so excited to see how many kiddos will be joining us. We're opening it to up to 10 new kids and 10 returning kids, so those who have learned with us already last year can help teach the new ones. I hear the numbers are small so far, think we may need to do another little presentation at the next monthly school assembly to drum up interest again. I'm also going to write an 'advertisement' in the school newsletter. Wish us luck! Take care, Rona

I know this is a large project for some kids. I think it would make a great community project. Kids could add a few rows when they have some time and together make real progress.

Don't forget to the let the staff & parents know about this KAL too!
