Hi everybody, hope you're having a wonderful weekend. Sandy asked if I would give a hand with the school program, and I'm absolutely thrilled to do so. I wanted to ask you all for your input, on what worked well for you this school year, and what maybe didn't work so well, so we can compile some tips and tricks to share with others as they start groups in their schools.
For me, we had three adults working with the kids at our after school club each week. It would have been wonderful to have a few more seasoned hands, I think, especially when one or two of us had conflicts and couldn't make it that day, or got sick and couldn't come.
We've been collecting donated yarn, and that's great, but we found that the kids gravitated towards the more colorful balls of yarn to make their squares (and the donated yarn was more dark greens and earth tones).
Three or four kids would forget their yarn and needles/hooks at home each week, so we were constantly loaning out yarn and needles. We wanted them to be able to work at home on their squares, so they took their materials home. Maybe we could do a weekly reminder on Weds that the square circle club is meeting the next day and please remember to bring in your work.
How about you? What worked well? What didn't work so well? What would you have done differently? What will you do differently next school year?
Thanks for your input! You can email me as well, if you'd rather not post here.
