Thank you Joan and Christine!  I've had fun browsing the sites and looking for gift ideas.  You have both really helped me a lot with your practical suggestions.

p.s  Love Knitting do have range of kits for both knitting and crochet (including a KAS bug lookalike I was interested to see.)

Lovely to hear from you Leanne - we really enjoy your blog posts.

I'm not sure about kits but my favourite suppliers online are:

Hi all!  I wonder if you could give me advice about where to buy knitting supplies online for someone who lives in Ireland?  I want to gift a friend who lives there, ideally with a knitting kit but otherwise with yarn, needles and a simple pattern.  I know about Amazon, but is there another online store with more local items perhaps?  I live in South Africa so gifting from a store is definitely going to be the easiest option for me.

Last week I bought a quantity of Paintbox yarns and was delighted with what I received. I bought Aran weight in bright colours but there are many more options and I love them. Now, when I'm spent out, Love Knitting have a 3 for 2 offer on the whole range, including colour packs. I dare not buy more but I'd like to - perhaps one of you could be tempted?

I am doing mainly Hats , Sandra does Hand warmers and Squares.. I have 20 ready to go , I hope to go to our Local Save the Children Shop and get some toys tomorrow to add to my bag the knitted things come to 1500 grams already. I have been told Aldi have some Wool , but I usually stick to Marriners at £1 per 100grams for double knit acrylic  free postage  if you buy £25 worth

It is Thought Bubble sequential art festival this week and Ricky, my 26-year old, and I will be there for the weekend.  There is always an element of Cosplay so I shall be asking folks to be photographed with my current square, and then tweeting the photos. (@KnitRebecca)

This year I have made some of the KAS business cards with my details on the back and #KnitASquare to hand out to all who agree - very easy to create with the template on the KAS website and I feel quite excited about handing them out!
