I know the gaps may cause concern for the warmth of these squares, but they are made with 100% merino wool yarn, and are quite warm. I got the patterns from Jan Eaton's book, "200 crochet blocks".
Got the little stuffed animals from the 99 cent shop!

Comment by Pam Johnson on February 5, 2012 at 1:33am Very lovely Mary, and if mixed with other more solid squares will add a dash of glamour with the pretty lace effect.
They are gorgeous. I envy you crocheters. It is such a beautiful pattern I hope there will be more?
Comment by P. Jeanne Haessler on February 3, 2012 at 11:45am There aren't any monster gaps in these. They sure fit the French Lace part of the February challenge and Ronda has said they like to include one fancy square per blanket for the kids...well here's 3 that REALLY qualify as fancy. Aren't they pretty?
Pretty squares.
To minimize the gap size I use a hook that is one size smaller than the pattern calls for. Fluffy yarns also fill in the gaps nicely.
Comment by CHARIS GRIFFIN on February 3, 2012 at 2:06am Mary, I have just been browsing through this book(and Jan's other one with patterns for baby blankets) looking for ideas-I love these books and have liked all the squares I have made from them. Like you I have been trying to work out the best way of dealing with the holes-I am going to try using chunkier and perhaps slightly fluffier yarns from my stash. I think your squares will be lovely and cozy in merino wool!
Beautiful! I think I have to get a little bit more adventurous in my crocheting. And I love the little Winnie the Pooh :)
Comment by Bev Jeffery on February 3, 2012 at 1:09am Love them, Mary.I'm not a crocheter, but these look quite intricate....and soooo pretty. They will be the wow! factor in any blanket.
Comment by Pam Antink on February 3, 2012 at 12:59am Ooooooh Mary, so lovely to be added to a blanket to provide that bit of individuality!
