Pompon sweater set

I found 2 balls of RedHeart "Pomp-a-Doodle" in the discount bin and had to buy it. Then of course I had to buy a large ball of RedHeart SuperSaver for the main body ( on sale of course :-) The SuperSaver is pinker than the photo shows.
I used a 5.5mm hook. The pomp-a-doodle yarn is fine to work with once I figured out how to crochet with it...thank goodness for Youtube tutorials !
Child's size 4-6

I admit it DID save a very boring winter hat I have...at least now it's "interesting" with a line of pompoms on it!

I highly commend you for managing to use the Pomp-A-Doodle...I find it quite the challenge despite watching the video how to use it.

Jeanne, the sweater is done in "back loop/front loop".

Pattern:

Ch3, hdc in same st as ch3 and both loops of the top of this stitch; hdc in back loop (BL) of next st; hdc in front loop (FL) of next st; repeat to last stitch; hdc in both loops of last st. Do not stitch into the top chain at the end of the row.

Repeat until front reaches required length.

Note: The stitches will be the opposite to the ones in the previous row.  e.g.  BL goes into FL

I always count the  stitches in the first few rows to make sure I have the correct # of stitches.

Here is a diagram of where to place the hook for BL and FL

Okay, question...if the main body of the sweater was half double crochet (hdc) how come you got those lovely ridges between rows on the sleeves and it makes such a nice pattern on the front, like little squares? Just curious as I've never had hdc work out that way for me. :)

Thanks ladies !   It was definitely a fun project.  Really didn't take that long as the main part is hdc.  I have a bit of pomp-a-doodle left so it will find its way into another project :-)

You're inspiring me, Linda.  I look at the Pomp-a-Doodle yarn in Wallyworld all the time.  I too looked it up on You Tube to find out how to use it.  Now you've given me an idea or two.  I love it as a neck edging and hat trim.  So soft too.  Really great job, bravo! :D
