The original ones are a granny square pattern with a difference. I used a hdc instead of dc. (hdc - half double crochet for those who are not crocheters.) The spaces in between seem smaller. So I think the original squares are heavier. Thanks for the comments on color, I guess the perfectionist in me comes out. Even for charity, I want it to look pretty. >^..^/body>

I think this pattern has less gaps and agree it might be the better for warmth. Am I right that this pattern is on the KAS site somewhere? I still love this yarn, it's so happy-go-lucky in it's colour combos, doesn't give a fig for formality. I think it's a really fun, "just go for it" yarn.

Jana, I think you should stick with this pattern. I just finished a pink & purple baby afghan using it (see photo I posted), and I think it's more dense than the classic granny square which has more spaces and therefore will be nice and warm. Once these squares are assembled and the true log cabin layout emerges, I think you'll have quite a work of art! Good luck!

Here's the weird yarn in a different pattern. I like this better, it kind of reminds me of log cabin pattern, but it's a lot lighter than the hdc pattern. It's all about being warm, so maybe I should go back to the original pattern. What do you think?
