I didn't know this, thanks for sharing it Claire. Fingers crossed that there will be plenty of coverage and some awareness in its stead.

This is wonderful to hear about. I too hope their visit will make it more high profile. International news tends to be very much "the flavor of the moment", forgetting that problems go on for years. I shall await developments and hope this…

Princes William and Harry highlighting the AIDS orphans

With the current coverage of the World Cup in Africa,  British television is swamped with programmes about South Africa and what a beautiful and special country it is. But I was pleased and amazed to see a report on a joint visit to South Africa by Princes William and Harry, with one of their main aims being to highlight the problems of AIDS amonst the young of SA and the repercussions of the awful disease.  It is quite unusual for them to travel together so hopefully their visit will get lots…See More

I wonder if Tilly was ever adopted? I would imagine there are so many babies that are needing a new family, it must outweigh the number of families wanting to adopt.

I agree that knowing about individual children, or even of the children in a specific creche, helps me to help the masses of needy children out there. It is very valuable to have names and faces...just sprinkled here and there. It helps me too. It…

Yes, Claire, all these stories inspire me to crochet more squares. It is the thought of keeping a child warm that keeps the hook moving. Even if we don't hear about the children who received the blankets, I know we have made a difference in…

Just wondering about all the 'little characters' from the past.

Hi all,  I needed to take a break from knitting squares for awhile (aching shoulder!) so decided to skim through all the e-zines from the beginning.  Several things struck me.  Firstly, just how far KAS has come in such a short amount of time and how being involved in it has given me a different outlook on life.  But then I began to wonder about all the 'Little characters' that have featured in Sandy's e-zine stories and where they are now and how they are doing.  Tiny 'Tilly' the premature…See More

She so beautiful, congratulations to you both. The breast feeding will get easier, but it is one of the hardest things to learn at a time when you are at your most exhausted and emotional. Follow her lead and you will both get the hang of it soon.…

Hi Claire, thanks for your comment. No there is not a pattern as I made it up as I went along using the tank top pattern from warmwoolies.org as a basis for measurements ets. I had 2 problems to solve - we don't have the same weight yarns here in S. Africa as the U.S. and I don't use circulars. But I was happy with the end result. regards - Jen

Hello Claire, just passing to personally welcome you to the forum and to thank you for already participating by sending a baby blanket for the July Challenge. That is great. We are going to keep running it for a while as we still have about 100 blankets to go and we will see after that what happens with regards to finding more places who look after abandoned babies. Look forward to chatting to you soon in the forum.

Watch out for the August challenge going up today. Sandy

Thanks Claire: I had been giving all my left-over small balls to the local elementary school. But, as it is summer, I was accumulating a big bag full and decided to try using it up - it was REALLY fun (and quick)! Laurie
