"I agree. That shade of orange is the perfect compliment to the green yarn. You've got a good eye for color combining!"

MEXICAN-STYLE PONCHOS

Hi KAS Knitters!  I have just finished knitting my first "Mexican-style poncho".  It is very simple to knit.  You just knit two long rectangles and then sew them together leaving a slit in the middle for the head.  This is a dual-purpose garment.  By day the child can wear it to keep it warm and at night it can be used as a blanket since it just has a slit in the middle!ClaudiaN.B.  Since I had a bit of wool left over, I knitted a matching hat! :-)See More

Hi Christine, hi Kalai

Thanks for your messages!

I live in Bicester, North Oxfordshire. It is great to see that lots of people are joining KAS. It is a worthwhile cause. I am trying to get more people in my area to join!

I have travelled quite extensively in southern Africa and have seen the abject poverty and real hardship that kids grow up in. AIDS is responsible for a lot of the problems, but it is by no means the only disease that causes havoc... malaria is still the "number one" killer!

Let's hope our humble squares, jumpers, hats, etc help these kids keep warm in the cold African nights and let's also hope that other organisations and charities help them in other ways!

Carry on knitting!

Hi Claudia

Welcome to our warm KAS community. It's great to see you. We hope you will enjoy the forum and your region's group. You should join the UK group!

There are lots of great discussions going on in the forum, including the monthly challenges.

We have a challenge every month, if you want to get involved please do. It's not compulsory at all but some of the work done is just lovely. Have a look at the November challenge - the SLIP-OVER (under challenges in the main forum) this will give you an idea of some of the fantastic work this community is doing for the children of South Africa. Here is a link to the November challenge photos:

Happy Knitting!

Kalai & Sandy
