Good morning Ladies - my name is Debbie and I live in Brooklin, ON (about 1 hr north-east of Toronto). I have just joined this wonderful group and have a few questions. If I am using worsted weight yarn do I use a single or double thread or should I use chunky weight yarn. I am an average knitter - mostly do cross stitch, but this is such a wonderful cause that I really want to join in (plus have a substantial stash of yarn in the basement)!! Thanks for your replies.

Hi Debbie

Welcome to our warm KAS community. We hope you will enjoy the forum and your region's group.

There are lots of great discussions going on in the forum, including the monthly challenges.

We are still continuing our July Challenge - keep a newborn warm, making blankets for abandoned babies, and there were some great results for the August in Africa challenge - you can see photographs under the photos menu. (Details of both challenges in the main forum). We're also continuing our September challenge which is also under "challenges" in the forum and have begun the October challenge which is fascinating, please see click the link for further information:

Did you receive the latest ezine? If not you can view it here:

Thanks so much for your contribution already, look forward to being in contact soon.

Happy Knitting!

Hi Debbie welcome to KAS. Just saw your comment on Canadian Corner. It was originally suggested that people use heavier weights of yarn but their are so many different versions across the world that it was tricky to work out what was what. KAS also very soon realised that many of us are trying to use up donations, bargains and cupboard (or basement) stashes and has told us to use any and all yarns. If it is a bit thinner, just use double but the important thing is to use it. I am not much of a knitter either, I prefer to do embroidery but have recently started to crochet and love it. That is what brought me here. There is something very satisfying about making squares for such a great cause. Have you looked at some of the back dated e-zines to see these little faces when they receive their warm hats and blankets? Nice to meet you and see you around.
Jeni
