P. Jeanne Haessler said… HI again, Edna. :) Yes, I've been involved in KAS since about early 2009, if memory serves right. It started up in 2008 and I found it shortly afterwards. It was an answer to prayer for me as I'd been concerned about the Aids orphans in Africa for some time but didn't know a way to help them. This is tailor made for me and seems to be for a lot of people too.
As I'm a very slow knitter, I crochet (self taught). My journey with KAS has been full of some interesting results...like the Go-Over that just expanded somehow to probably fit somebody the size of the Michelin Tire Man...it nearly fell off my oldest daughter and she's 5'9". Story of my life that is...making things too large...I made my 2nd youngest an afghan to fold over the end of her dormitory bed in University and despite following the pattern religiously, it ended up covering her entire bed! I was at a loss to explain it. I usually am, LOL! It now easily covers 5 adults on a sofa watching a movie. Oh well...don't ask her about the scarf I made...I'm 6 inches taller than her and wrapped twice round MY neck it still brushes the floor...it swamps her. So I think they were all verrrry relieved when I started crocheting for Knit A Square and left them in peace! (I made Mary Jane slippers for my youngest and they fit her husband, he said they were quite comfortable...BUT STILL! Argh.)
I make squares, hats and vests mainly, though some of the slipover vests morph into sweaters as I add a neck and sleeves. Seems to be a compulsion! At least I've got the sizes right now. Well MOST of the time. I am busy being a moderator here and on another online Forum but I strive to crochet when I can. Health challenges keep me occupied some days but right now I've got a stack of squares, hats and garments waiting to be mailed so I'd better get off my duff and do that eh?
Thanks so much for saying I'm kind hearted. That brought me a smile on an overcast, arthriticky day!

Pam Antink said… Hi Edna, Welcome to the KAS forum and I hope you will enjoy being part of this friendly & lively community. Do you knit or crochet or both? Around the world caring people are all taking direct action and team-working with the Ladies of the Soweto Comfort Club - it is making a difference to many parentless children. When you've had a chance to look around the site you would be very welcome to join the UK group for more local news and chat.
You can also personalize your own page by clicking on the My Page tab on the menu. Also you can access Settings on this page and set your privacy terms. For questions click on the Forum tab and then KAS - Questions, Answers and Help.
Glad your magazine directed you our team! Check out the New Member Guide by clicking the "Main Page" tab above. There you will find all kinds of information about KAS. Check out the Photo tab for inspiration. Squares and hats are the priority at the moment. Hats need to be fairly large as by the age of 4 the heads are almost adult size. If you have a digital camera please add your work to the Photo section.
