Springtime is coming

"Yes, the SA winter is definitely making an (unseasonably early) appearance. It's going to be a cold one, I think so keep knitting and sending your amazing squares, ladies. Paola, these are beautiful - they really do look like spring flowers!"

Our visit to Katia Day Care Centre - 23 Feb 2010...

Wow! I mean WOW!!!! What a FANTASTIC response from all you wonderful people... It's so inspiring to receive all your messages and see how dedicated and excited everyone is about being kept in the loop from this side. I'm so looking forward to communicating with you all on a regular basis. I have tried to reply to many of you individually where specific questions were asked, but if you haven't received a response I will do so…

Hi Erin,
in Durban there are a number of shops called 'Waste Centre' - misnomer if ever - but they sell very thick blanketting' cut into small sizes which they call dog blankets. Thought if I said this on the main forum I'd be shot down in flames! However, they are very thick almost felted and would keep out the cold. Cheap and hairy but with a blanket around the little ones they could be an alternative until something more suitable could be found. I'm sure something similar is available in Jhb.

Hi Erin,
I will make a few more "noughts and crosses" games and send them together with instructions.
Thanks for posting the photos of your Uncle Pete. He must have been a fun person to have around. He looks so happy being with family. Your time together must have been very special. Hold on to your memories ! They are a great help.

Hi Erin,
I have made a crochet X's and O's (think you call it "noughts and crosses") game. I was going to send it in one of my parcels but have a few questions.
1) Would you have a need for this type of game?
2) If so, would you like me to make more?
3) Do I need to include instructions for the carers/children ?
Thanks for your help.

Hello Erin
I am arriving in Johannesburg on Thursday 19th November this year, staying in the Protea Hotel Wanderers. I am spending three weeks in South Africa, my first visit, watching England play the One Day Cricket Series against South Africa. I wanted to ask you how far the Soweto Comfort Club is outside of Jo'burg ? I would love the chance to meet the ladies who process all of the work that is sent whilst I am there. I am with an organised tour and shall be at The Wanderers for the day/night game on Friday 20th and at Centurion for the 2nd ODI on Sunday 22nd. We fly out of Jo'burg on Monday 23rd bound for Cape Town. I think my "free" time will be the morning of Friday 20th and all day Saturday 21st.

Thank you

Julia

Agh my little niece of KAS Johannesburg fame - As mentioned to Arlene, am seldom without wool and needles and of course have that wonderful mature age!!!! time to just knit and knit and knit. Love it. People are unbelievably generous and KAS has most certainly hit a really special spot in so many hundreds of people's hearts hey? You are doing so well and we applaud u endlessly. Our darling Rondsi too - she is amazing. 8,000 squares unpacked, sorted and now so many blankets sewn up. When do u leave for Cubby the Cob? love ya - zan
