Hi Gill - re your message regarding postage - there is no central collection point as Elaine mentioned below. The best way to send your items is by surface mail. Items under 2kg in weight and with dimensions of less than 90 cm can be sent this way. Its a lot cheaper than air mail and takes between 4 and 8 weeks. This is a long term project so speed of delivery is not important. Just to give you an idea, my last parcel weighed 0.957kg and cost £6.42 to post.

All items go to the same address

Knit-a-Square
Soweto Comfort Club
Private Bag X900
Bryanston 2012
South Africa

Please mark you parcel - Knitting for Charity, No commercial value. You'll have to fill in a customs form but just put the value as £1.00 - this is to try and prevent duty being charged in South Africa.

Hope that helps - any more questions, please ask. Really glad that you found us!

Hi Gill and welcome. You seem to have prompted masses of correspondence in just a few days - sorry it took me so long to find you!! KAS is only just over a year old and, whilst membership is increasing all the time, there are still too few of us in the UK and we are spread all over the country so it's probably not practical at the moment to have a central collection point. Also, there is no central fundraising in the UK so the postage costs would be something of an issue. If you take a trip around the forum you will see that some members are brilliant at raising funds in all sorts of imaginative ways - I just scrape my pennies together and send parcels as and when I can! Good to have you on board.

Hi Gill

Welcome to our warm KAS community. It's great to see you. We hope you will enjoy the forum and your region's group. You should join the UK group!

There are lots of great discussions going on in the forum, including the monthly challenges.

We have a challenge every month, if you want to get involved please do. It's not compulsory at all but some of the work done is just lovely. Have a look at the November challenge - the SLIP-OVER (under challenges in the main forum) this will give you an idea of some of the fantastic work this community is doing for the children of South Africa. Here is a link to the November challenge photos:
