Debbie Posmontier said… Hi Susan,
I've just read through this thread on the UK group and thought I'd answer your question about "holidays." I believe the Brits refer to a vacation as a "holiday" as in "We were on holiday." We'd say, "We were on vacation" Does that help?
Christine Johnson said… Hi Susan, I just saw your question under Jen's photo concerning the £s to $s.
Jen mentioned £8 (eight pounds) and the equivalent US is approx $13 ( for 500g which is just over a lb - 453 grams to the pound weight.) I can see that it's a bit confusing since we used to use the same word for currency and weight.
As I'm typing this your beautiful squares keep appearing on the slideshow. Love your even knitting and lovely work.
maggie rees said… Thank you for the friend request Susan. You have been busy making so many squares.
They are all lovely.
Bev Jeffery said… Thank you so much for the friend request, Susan, which is accepted with pleasure. :-)
Vickie Koelling said… Thank you, Susan. I'm now working on a chain stitch square that combines the three colors. It starts with a white cross in the center, then pink, and then the blue border. I'm thinking about calling it the Trinity Square where the white cross symbolizes Jesus (our Savior), the pink symbolizes God the Father (God is Love), and the blue symbolizes the Holy Spirit (water, truth, and empowerment).
Vickie Koelling said… Crocheting does go pretty quickly. Depending on the stitch and design, it usually takes me about 3 hours per square. It's easier for me to work with one hook than 2 needles. My Lenten project was to crochet one square per day, so I crocheted 40 squares during Lent, and I'm now up to about 56 squares. I am motivated by the warmth and comfort these blankets will provide for the AIDS children. They will love the color of the squares, as well as the softness of the blanket. Because the squares are just 8 inches by 8 inches, it's fun to try different stitches and designs, sort of like sampler squares for a blanket.
Vickie Koelling said… Susan, thank you for your kind comment. I am currently working on a anchor puff square ('"Hope") in blue. I would to try doing the heart puff square ("Love") in pink or red, and the cross puff square ("Faith") in white and see if I can make enough squares for a blanket. From your photos, it looks like you're proficient in both knitting and crocheting! Squares go faster for me if I crochet them, and I like the different stitch designs you can do with them.
Anneke said… Thanks so much Susan!
Linda Maltby added the pattern to the Forum, categories: "Patterns-squares" named "Anneke's Warm-Hearted Square".
Maureen (Maudie) Anne Bryan said… What a rainbow of colours and squares Susan. They are gorgeous. It is always hard to get the 200mm square. I try the diagonal and sometimes they finish up too small after all. I am going to do one and measure the 200mm side then do another row and that should solve my problem.
Anneke said… Hi Susan, Great to be friends! Thank you so much for inviting me, I feel honoured. Big Hug, Anneke
