Suzanne, my comment posted before I had finished it!!!!

Going back to the border in single moss stitch -I used 5 stitches - Row 1: k1 p1, Row 2: p1 k1 - and knitted 2 lengths of 24 inches and 2 lengths of 32 inches and then sewed them into place along the edges.

Hope all this has been helpful to you. Angela xx

Thanks, Suzanne, for your lovely comments. The stitch I used on the blanket was a double moss stitch (I think that would be a double seed stitch in USA) ie, Row 1: k2 p2, k2 p2 Row 2: k2 p2, k2 p2
Row 3: p2 k2, p2 k2 Row 4: p2 k2, p2 k2 - these 4 rows form the pattern. The border is five stitches done in single moss, ie k1

Really quite simple but I think looks very effective! I first came across it when I was knitting a baby cardigan for my little grandson.

Pattern for the hat is a bit longer and I will put it on a blog post - I was quite surprised to find how many other ladies also want the pattern.

Thanks Suzanne, I hope it looks okay once I've sewn it up. I haven't started yet, I'll start tonight and then I'm going to crochet around the edges (if I can) I've never crocheted before.

I hope you had a lovely weekend!

I cannot find the post to which yo are replying -- but I think we are talking about the Windy City Knitting Guild. The Guild meets the third Tuesday of each month from 6:45 pm- 8:55 pm at Sulzer Regional Library, 4455 North Lincoln Ave, Chicago, IL 60625. The agenda is Refreshments, Meeting and Greeting, Guild Business, a program/mini class, and Show & Share.

Hi Suzanne if you go on the pattern search on ravelry under the heading baby blankets, there are several examples of this feather and fan blanket. Unfortunately I only know how to link things on Ravelry. I'll try copy and paste and see if that works.

Suzanne thank you for your comments.
I knitted this using yarn that was somewhere between dk and worsted. Awful stuff.....feels like rope when you're knitting it.
I just used the feather and fan pattern which is very easy to use. I used 4.5mm needles and had 99 sts, but it only worked out at 20" across. I'm debating whether or not to crochet a few rows onto the sides to make it the 24x 32 requested for the blankets.
I love your very colourful blanket. Although I can do the crochet stitches I am very slow and am never entirely happy with the results. Having said that I am kind of thinking about crocheting one next, as it does work up faster.
What are you planning next?
