"That square looks great and it's a lovely deep rich color too.  Garter stitch is warmer than stockinette and stretches to accommodate being joined with smaller or odd shaped squares.  I enjoy hand knitting squares too, using garter."

"You are doing well, Tooth.  :)) I find that knitting on 4mm needles (with a few more stitches to make 8 inches) can help 'firm up' the square, too, especially if the yarn is a soft/stretchy type or if it is thinner than I expected.…"

Hi Tooth.

A warm welcome to the Knit A Square forum.  :))

Knitting or crocheting an 8" square or two or possibly even a few is a wonderful gift for the children. They love to receive their blankets, created from squares, which come from kindly, caring folk such as yourself, from over 60 countries all over our world.  PJs (Plain Janes as they are affectionately known) are the backbone of all our blankets. These are single colour squares that are in garter stitch(knitting) or single crochet as they are very solid and provide a contrast to a picture/striped/patterned square or two that may be added to a blanket.By clicking on the KASpattern book tab at the top of the page or our other square pattern discussion  http://forum.knit-a-square.com/forum/topics/member-s-patterns-squares you can also find lots of patterns provided by our fellow K-A-Sers. If you would kindly check out our wishlist, you can see what items we are currently focusing on.

Clicking on the 'Helpful Hints' tab at the top of the page, will possibly answer many initial questions you may have .Any other questions...please ask...we love to help. :))

If you'd like to see what other KASers have been making please click on the photo tab at the top of the page....and feel free to add photos of your creations...we would love to see them. Just click on 'add photos' and follow the prompts.

If you want to see the most active discussions at present, please click on the 'main page' tab and they are listed in the centre of that page...just pick one and click on it. It is a large website, but with so much fun and info.

Each month we have a fun theme to inspire and motivate us. If you would like to see this month's theme, please click on this link: http://forum.knit-a-square.com/forum/topics/february-2018-theme-celebrate-africa

F.Y.I here is our 2018 themes list....these themes are just for fun and there is no pressure to join in. ANY squares you would like to make are most welcome and much appreciated. :))
