Thanks for your compliments about my work.  It is the children that keep my fingers crocheting.

Adding comments, etc to the forum can be quite daunting !   I've been a member for a number of years and still find things I can't figure out :-)

To add to the tally I right click and copy the latest totals then paste into the comment box. I'm able to add my items and change the totals.  Let me know if you have a problem the next time you add items and I'll help. Always fun to learn something new

I was sorry to hear about Jess's potential problem.  Barney lived for 14 years with very little to trouble him - he became arthritic in his final year but had some really good tablets to help him.  Josh had major surgery for his discs aged 2 and has not looked back since.  Occasionally he has a couple of days when he can't jump on the furniture but still regularly walks 3 miles a day with me.  He would like to sit on my knee whilst I knit but has to be content with my feet! I am going to Nottingham Jigsaw next week to deliver squares that I have made and those of my Mum and her Age UK "club" friends.

ah thanks for your lovely comments Kathryn! I really admire your work to, lovely colours, great ideas - and lots of it! I really love your toys, such lovely little characters, they will make great friends over in SA.

My name is also Kathryn by the way, and my neighbour who also knits for KAS is a Kathryn - but we are both called Kathy (amongst other things!) - nice to meet another Kathryn! xx

We had two Cavalier Kning Charles- We said sad farewells to our Tri - Barney (aged 14) Sept. 2010 , two days after I left work.  A very sad time and quite difficult for Josh, our Blenheim, who was 5 at the time and had only known life with Barney.  He was quite lonely for a while.  He is heaps better now and still a lively fun dog who loves to walk in the forests when we are on holiday in Norfolk.

I'm sorry that the picture quality is so bad but when I when came to photograph this I found that my camera battery was missing so I asked my husband to use his camera and he made it so small it's lost definition. However, maybe this will help.

I constructed this Go-over in exactly the same way as the picture on your page.

Then I took two more squares (A & B) and joined them on one side. I then folded them as I've tried to show and attached the seamed side to the back edge of the Go-over neck, and the folded sections to the front edges of the neck. Does that make sense? Then I seamed the top of the squares to create a hood shape and crocheted around all the edges to neaten.

I hope this will help. I don't normally put hoods on Go-overs but as I was given some suitable squares I thought I'd have a go. As you can see by my photos I like to fiddle and I most like making clothes for teddies and decorating squares but  I do limit myself so that I don't waste too much time.

Hi Kathryn, thank you for your very kind comment. I can't take credit for all the items in my photos - I get given quite a lot through my shop and I like to acknowledge that by posting pictures from time to time.

Regarding the hooded Go-over I tried to explain what I did and made it sound so much more complicated than it really is that I think it would be best to do a mock-up and take photos. All I can remember off-hand is that it was very simple and I was pleased how easily it went together (apart from the sleeves that is which are too big.) The Go-over was made from squares I was given and when I realised I had sufficient matching ones I had a go at something I had been wondering about for some time. I have never made another as usually I prefer to knit from scratch so I use much bigger squares and rectangles. I will have a play with some squares tomorrow and get back to you when I've worked out what I did.

As Jeanne has said they haven't the resouces in Johannesburg at present to distribute baby clothes but they would be very welcome in Zimbabwe apparently. Send to the usual address and mark the package 'For Zimbabwe'

I'll write again when I have some clearer instructions for you to see - It feels like years since I made that.

Kathryn, so far as the sizes on the tops you've done, believe me, if they cannot be used in South Africa they will find their way on the next truck going up to Zimbabwe as they desperately need any and everything up there.  So no worries! :D

I agree with you about the knitting/crocheting for the children...it's VERY worthwhile...the first time you spot a little one at a creche distribution in a hat or sweater of yours, or spot a square of yours in a blanket you get such a thrill.  Being able, just humble old me, to make a literal difference to an orphaned child half a world away, is so awesome.  I tend to use worsted or bulky weight yarns when I can, as they make up faster but sometimes I've doubled up thinner yarns with good results.  Glad to have you with us!
